Re: Are we looking forward to being a membership charity?

There are many on this forum who have waxed eloquently and passionately - far better than could I. What is indisputable is that this is a very important and live topic - manifest in 17 pages in a mere 17 days. It takes some stamina to follow all this and remain objective let alone have the resillien...

Re: Royal Mail Driver Reporting

Pete Owens says None of your arguments points to it being preferable to drive to the left of the island rather than the right Surely there is just one argument - the law says you should do so. If you are prepared to break a S36 sign (the old S22 I believe) and risk points on your licence as a "...

Re: Where should Lord Adonis visit on his cycle tour?

To Chris Peck What gaz says is succinct and I would agree to be the most important point. Make cycling on roads safer. Enhance policing where every officer, of all designations, feels compelled, by what ever measure, to take an positive interest in supporting the concept and is active in reporting o...

Re: Where should Lord Adonis visit on his cycle tour?

Even that is better than the A3 at Butser Gap, south of Petersfield which has no provision. A number of us have been campaigning to get a cyle way through there using an old bit of road (which they have blocked despite it still being a highway!) and have even managed a site meeting with the Highways...

Re: CTC website services

When there was a "competition" for a new CTC jersey I wrote to the NO member tasked with designing and producing it. I actually suggested having a generic CTC design with a rectangular patch in white so the DA's (remember them?) could add their own DA name. Nothing happened for a long whil...

Re: avoiding digital desaster

So do you ride in "cycling clothes"? I find my Olympus sits well in the back pocket of a cycling jersey and there is probably less vibration there than in a handlebar mounted bag. I assume your new camera is a similar size. When in "civvy" clothes I just use any pocket big enough...

Re: Unimpressive Police Response

Cunobelin Is this Eastern Road by any chance? I assume you reported this by telephone - if so you probably spoke to a civilian who will have very limited training in law - its just not their job. When reporting in person at a station you are also likely to be met by a civilian. My advice would be to...

Re: Honest John

I'm with Thirdcrank. If the information laid for a summons is for an incorrect road then the prosecuition should fail. Honest John's reply brings up "wobbling". Although it is not in the summation of the circumstances it does not mean that it was not in original letter to him from the ques...

Re: Honest John

To Edinburghfixed Clearly there is a perception that responsible cyclists ought to look like dustbin men, Why do you always refer to someone wearing high viz clothing in such a way? Is it meant to be pejorative? Refuse collectors do a necessary job and frequently work in the highway , just like the ...

Re: Flourescent jackets on a summers day...

The original statement/question from Freddie includes "I've seen a fair bit of flouro gear being used in the daytime" There has been a lot of discussion since about liabilities, regulation, effectiveness, perceptions, message given, misinterpretation, ugliness etc but the overall point to ...

Re: Outer Hebrides - booking required?

My wife and I did much the same route (but a bit more) 2 years ago in May/June and found little difficulty in booking in advance in hostels. However we did find this a peak season for the islands and many B&Bs were full. We tended to book just one day ahead to give flexibility but on one occasio...

I have been present at least twice when you have raised this and last time they promised to seriously consider it. No doubt like their other reviews everything in the garden is rosy. I am with you.

Re: Parking in Oban

Forget the car park by Tescos - now very restricted. The garage option is apparrently secure but when we went (2007) it did not open on a Sunday and not early enough in the morning for us to catch the ferry. So we used the car park by the leisure centre. Only problem was a flat battery when we got b...

Re: CTC - does it want members?

Si Page 3 of the Annual Report in the current magazine has a heading "Membership processing". This refers to a full independant review in 2008 (no doubt commissioned following 2008 AGM delegates demanding further action and a promise given that the providor would be replaced if appropriate...

Phil or Karen
Perhaps when there you could persue the so called full report on the membership enquiry? The magazine report suggests all is well but the forum definitely indicates otherwise.
