Well done CJ. I have always appreciated your expertise in technical matters but pleasantly surprised at your analysis here (but why should I be?). What a pity that some more(?) of the executive could not manifest such pragmatism on cycling.

I have an older verwion of the NWT and find it can take the weight OK. Panniers and rear mech are close to the ground but not too much of a problem. The folding is not as quick or as small as some but it does ride reasonably on tour. I even have a front rack for additional panniers. A quick fold to ...

Behaviour breeds behaviour. The more we call out in a friendly way the more we can positively influence others to respond positively. This applies also to horse riders and pedestrians, some of whom appear genuinely frightened of us on approach.

I carried a very thin zipup bag which I put both of them in prior to check in. Once on the trip the bag was useful for shopping when off the bike.
I did put an elastic strap around the panniers to hold them together but don't think it was necessary.
