Re: Consent from the Missus

I find being amorous works well. Within minutes she suggests that it is time I go away on another trip with the other old fools. :D

I had a ride on the ICE TRICE - now they were FAT tyres!

Re: Exustar Stelvio 705 clearout at Planet-X

I was lucky enough to get a pair as well but so far find them uncomfortable in that they rub my heel tender. Does anyone have experience of that and/or a remedy please?

Re: First Great Western

I have experienced your dilemma. I booked in plenty of time and got on the train at Penzance. There was already "jostling" to get bikes onto the train and it was full when we left. During the journey at other stops people loaded extra bikes but in the doorways etc. The train manager was am...

Re: ICE Rally and Race - 27th July 2014

The event was cancelled this morning due to lack of uptake.

How much is cancelled?
I bought spectator tickets on-line late last night and there was no notification of any cancellation.

Re: ICE Rally and Race - 27th July 2014

Well 5.2 comes as a subsection of 5 - which states helmets are essential. 5.2 merely means you don't have to wear a suit and collared shirt etc. Even the ICE blog says that you have to "bring a helmet" if you want to ride anything at the event. I don't think playing the semantics game and ...

Re: Getting to Whitehaven

You could do what I did on 21st June. I used Virgin to get from London to LLandudno Junction and it was full as regards booking a bike. So I bagged it (front and rear wheels out and strapped either side of frame) and carried it on as luggage. No complaint from train manager or passengers - just fitt...

Re: Cycling the Canal du Midi

Sorry for the delay - been busy. I did indeed do it on a full susser but it was not necessary for the most part. Part of the eastern section was badly churned up due to removal of trees (diseased?) from alongside the canal. At some of these points there was a lower path by the canal itself and a hig...

Thicko like me needs more guidance. Did the clicking and marker made but it doesn't stay there even though it has given me a hyperlink to keep to make changes.

Just finished a trip with someone who broke his frame and bought a new 20spd to continue. Said the range was good and stopped a lot of faffing about with three rings. No personal experience though!

Re: Spoke Nipples Split

@Brucey
Thanks for advice. Upon return from hols I examined the wheels more closely. In answer to your question it has alloy nipples. I've checked the wear and decided that both front and rear are too worn to be worth playing around with so a new set coming up shortly.

Am I safe enough in replacing any defective ones or should I rebuild the wheel?

Spoke Nipples Split

Cleaning the bike after some muddy off roading and I noticed a loose spoke in my rear wheel. Thinking it was broken I found instead that the nipple itself had split so that it was unable to hold onto the thread of the spoke. Never had this before and, in fact, this wheel has never lost a spoke since...
