Re: DEMAND FOR A POLL OF THE WHOLE CLUB

Would be name 'CTC - Cycling UK' be OK?

Not a deal breaker, I would have thought. I imagine that there would be disagreement within the sections about what they want to use as a name. Some would like it, some not.

Re: Goodbye Tony Blackburn: Fall Guy

Right now it's the BBC. It must be It's been in the news a lot. That is another complaint that I have about the BBC, around 50% of their "news" content is about the BBC, its staff, its ex-staff, its proposed staff, its programmes, its premises, its trust, its history, the programmes about...

Re: DEMAND FOR A POLL OF THE WHOLE CLUB

So the "Touring" section with a budget of 20p a year and a part time secretary for 1 hr a month will manage to do ... nothing. I am not sure how much a CTC section needs to carry on with its existence. None of the people involved in running the ones I know about, get paid . The expenses a...

Re: DEMAND FOR A POLL OF THE WHOLE CLUB

How would 'Cycling UK - with sections be viewed, eg Cycling UK - CTC (touring) for example or Cycling UK - Commuters. A list of names added to 'Cycling UK' for the various forms of cycling. The name CTC - Cycling UK could also be used for perhaps 10 years or more to see if any benefits were noted f...

Re: TV licence payment

Next thing you will be saying that they have a compulsory Poppy rule to enforce the militirisation of remembrance and a ban on wearing any other such symbols (pink ribbons, CTC winged wheels).

Re: TV licence payment

Like I said the Saville whitewash will be the end of them as a state funded mechanism.

If it is, then it will be an excuse to do what they already wanted to do, rather than the real reason why they did it.

Though of course they are not technically a state funded mechanism.

Re: ceramic walled rims. why arent they more popular?

A 500' descent is plenty to overheat just one brake, and such hills are commonplace. Commonplace is giving the wrong impression, even for hilly riding such hills will be noteworthy and probably known by name. Most of the descents will be much shorter or shallower. The vast majority of such descents...

Re: TV licence payment

It's a broadcasting company that supposed to be neutral not just *any* organisation. There neutrality extends just about as far as not discriminating between Labour and Conservative. Though that collapsed on the selection of Corbyn. I do find the time lag between news stories appearing in RT or Al ...

Re: Average speed by age/weight

Too many other variables. Being heavy through muscle or fat is much less of a handicap on the flat than in the hills. 12.2mph is above average I would say for sustained long distance riding in mildly hilly terrain. Way below average for people in expensive kit out for a two or three hour blast on la...

and that to throw away a tyre before it gets down to the legal minimum as a crying shame. It certainly is, that is a lot of the world's resources going to waste. As for safety, which is going to be better in the wet? A winter tyre with 3mm of tread (1 below the recommendation) or a normal tyre with...

Re: ceramic walled rims. why arent they more popular?

If you just assume that I am not assuming anything, I am stating a fact. I do most of my riding in this way in this environment. The brakes DO cope with my riding normally, hills are seldom steep, hilly, twisty AND 1,000 feet. If they are then I know about them. I can give one example that fits the...

Re: Greasing a chain

A long time ago the SRAM technical expert did an interview where he said some honest things about their chains. The manufacturer's grease is good stuff but you have to get the chains clean and then you need a vacuum chamber to enable you to get the grease into them. If you happen to have one at hom...

Re: Rear mech . . . 9sp down to 7

I am using 9 speed rear derailleurs on six, seven and eight speed set ups, no need to change anything. I did once have an issue the other way, trying to use my old six speed derailleur on an 8 speed set up and it couldnt get all the way to first gear. It was on quite thick aluminium dropouts and wou...

Re: Vittoria Hypers (again)

Those tests still fail to compensate for different tyre widths. The nice voluminous 37mm tyre may have a better rolling resistance at the same pressure as the noticeably narrower (32-33mm) Marathon Racer but you wouldnt ride them both at the same pressure. 90psi in a 37mm tyre with only 47Kg on it, ...
