I think this should read "with a 25mm thread".

Re: Allen Key brake nuts.

The measurement quoted for length is usually the length of thread etc on the bolt, not the head. If you go to a website selling bolts like stagonset before they unscrewed they quoted M5x25 as an M5 bolt with 15mm thread and had them listed according to the type of head. If you need longetr then have a look at SJSC for a longer range of brake bolts.

Flax Bourton to Nailsea route

Can somebody give me a report on the ice/snow state of this short stretch of route 33. I did mean to ride out today but the cold/sore throat I've got meant it was better I stayed home. Need to make the most of the week away from work I've got.

TIA

Re: Garmin 705 Display

I made the mistake of buying the genuine Garmin carry case for my 705 and it was huuggee. I returned it to Wiggle and strolled round the camera shops in Bristol and tried several for size and bought a rigid case for a tenner, got to do the sasme for my ContourHD when I remember to take it with me.

Re: Public toilet closures during the winter

A toilet block that was well known for male meetings was closed in Bristol a few years ago and the local rag interviewed a local council representative who was quoted as saying "the closure of this toilet block has been a great relief". I'm not sure if the comment was made on purpose but I found it ironic.

Re: What sort of stuff will a charity shop take thesedays?

Electrical items need to have a PAT (poratble appliance test) before a 2nd hand shop can sell it which most charity shops don't have the facilities to carry out and the price of brand new items is so low from the likes of Tesco & Adsa that it means it is not financially viable for the charity shop to sell them as a brand new item will come with a 12mth gaurantee. Where I volunteer we are offered/collect small WEEE and never reuse them for the reasons above.

Re: I'm Building a Wheel

tykeboy2003 wrote:I built my first wheel a month or so back it isn't difficult at all as long as you know the lacing pattern - Sheldon Brown's site is useful for that. I used an old frame to true the wheel in, having drilled/tapped a couple of holes to screw bolts through adjacent to the rims. It just took a bit of time and patience - but very satisfying.

It might be a bit more difficult if have to calculate the spoke length, the spreadsheet on there looked horrendous.

I've used Sheldon for the lacing of wheels though I got it wrong with the last wheel, spokes in the wrong side of the rim  Too busy making sure the valve hole spacing was correct. As for the spokelengths I used WheelPro. You do need to make several measurements of the hub and use a pair of cut down spokes but it has been spot-on the times I've used it.

+1 Guilty as charged. Started off with an AT2K. Next were several of the MD80 clones, I kept overcharging them 4+hours ain't good. Now I own a ContourHD1080, damn Amazon for sending the email telling me I could get it for £170.

Ditto but there are these yellow lorries going round dropping stuff on the roads. Not a good idea to be caught behind one.

Re: My first Youtube posting

Red light races are all too common where we, the cyclist, lose the race. There will be one day where the car loses out and ends up marooned in the middle of the road, blocking the othere traffic.

Re: Snow on the way - reach for the car keys?

If you drive, don't do as one of the girls in the office did when we last had snow in Bristol. She phoned in and asked which road was best to use and told us she was 5 mins away. That phonecall gave us time to get armed for her arrival in the carpark

I think they are a bit young to have been grandfathers. Unfortunately there have been mumerous tragedy's on this bridge over the years so a bit more research required.

After today's ride I first thought that was what the tribute was for but the actual incident was back in 1999, the inquest was in 2003 and the dates on the cards and poems refer back to 2003 so it might but there are no incidents online in 2003.

Further to my earlier reply, the memorial does relate to the gantry incident of 1999. My father lives in Avonmouth, as did I, and the only incident of note in 2003 he can remember was a mother and daughter killed in a crash on the bridge.

A coin is better for undoing the crank caps as I've chewed them up with screwdrivers in the past.
