A Tricross isnt a tourer, dont waste your money on it unless you want to tour lightweight. I toured on mine, including Spain to the UK because its my commuter and I cant afford another bike. The supplied rear wheel isnt strong enough to cope with a load on the back (you dont want broken spokes)The ...

I recently completed Portsmouth - St Malo return with Brittany Ferries and was left to my own devices both ways. The crew in the hold seemed fairly courteous throughout.

Re: Buying a budget touring bike
As a suggestion i'd try a few different bikes and look to get a good second hand one. I've just bought a Dawes Kara Kum on Ebay for £155. It's 10 years old but has been looked after. Seems to have had a new chain recently and came complete with original front and rear racks, pump and set of Cateye ...

Re: I want a new bike...
Carl. Have you looked at the Specialized tricross? This years model comes with disc brakes - I have a 2010 model and have used it for touring a few times on all sorts of terrain - and can't rate it highly enough. No suspension forks, but as others have asked, do you really need them.

Re: Traffic Wardens....
I live in a conservation area of a small market town. We see traffic wardens at most once or twice a week.
