Re: Hands hurt after returning to riding

I thought they might be that type of bars or something similar. I've not used them, so I can't really comment, but aren't your hands in rather an odd ie angled, position when holding the hoods? Indeed they are. I rode this bike with these bars throughout 2014 till around March 2015 with no issues. ...

Re: Hands hurt after returning to riding

To me that looks a strange position for brake levers, but perhaps it's the perspective of the photo. What sort of bars are they? They are On-One Midge Handlebar "Geometry: width at the ends - 554mm - centre/centre. Width of flat section or tops - 375mm Overall drop - 112mm centre/centre. Sweep...

Hands hurt after returning to riding

Hi all. Will try to keep this as brief as I can. I've started riding again after about a year of very little riding. I've got this problem - about 6-7 km into a ride on my Pompino my hands start to hurt. Specifically, the muscles in my thenar eminences. It's an extremely intense pain (but no numbnes...

Re: XCr Suntour Fork Seal popped off

That hasn't popped off while it's been parked up. Theyre easy forks to strip and require a regular clean and re grease to to be at their best, so now is probably a good time to whip them off and do the deed. Plenty of guides on Youtube and the like. Yeah, it could have happened anytime really. I li...

Re: XCr Suntour Fork Seal popped off

Thanks for the replies so far. I'll attempt the maintenance at some point - I've got a friend who might be able to help me out with this next week. I was also thinking of replacing the fork, actually - but I've no idea where to start. I know they have different angles, etc. Ideally I want to replace...

XCr Suntour Fork Seal popped off

Hi All, So the seal on my XCR suntour fork has popped off. I haven't touched the bike in a while - I'm giving it a bit of an overhaul at the moment. I've just taken off the rack, rear mudguard and the lizard skins off the stanchions. No idea when the seal popped - the bike hasn't been used for a yea...

Re: New to cycling. Help with gear/trike required.

back pain that can flare up even worse, due to an L5/S1 prolapse. Should it decide it wants to surprise me and cause me a massive spike in pain, itll reduce the chance of further injury from loosing control and falling off a 2 wheeler. So, as you see, I like to plan for the worst case scenario, heh...

Re: New to cycling. Help with gear/trike required.

I found the internal batteries in solar chargers die after a few years and they don't hold much charge. I just switch the GPS off when I get the 9% low battery alert - then my phone will last about another day on standby and long enough to make an emergency call. When I'm away from the mains for lo...

Re: Which chains and cassettes to avoid.

Another vote for KMC here. Mostly it's the corrosion resistance as well as the longevity, all for a decent price. That, and I've been using them for the last 5 years and they've never done me wrong. Shimano chains, on the other hand... I wrote about this a long time ago, and even included some pictu...

Ahh, yes, sorry, the acronym is second nature.
SIJ stands for sacroiliac joint. They transfer forces from the legs to the spine. They absorb a lot of shock from the saddle.

Re: Cheap sprung saddle and supple tyre recommendation

Tie an opaque plastic bag over it. Keeps the rain and sun off and the dafter criminals don't realise it's desirable, especially if the bike is unremarkable. oh it's covered all the time anyway (anytime I'm not riding it, that is). Fortunately I've never had a brooks nicked, but unfortunately I've k...

Re: Cheap sprung saddle and supple tyre recommendation

Sprung saddles are crap. Get some big padded elastomer thing. I completely disagree with that. My brooks flyers have kept me very happy over the last 2 years. Before that it was an endless trial and error process with various "normal" saddles, including various gels and materials. Funnily...

Re: Cheap sprung saddle and supple tyre recommendation

The rubber-ball "sprung" Selle Royal saddles seem good value. Variety of widths. I think the "moderates" are similar shapes to the flyer. I like Schwalbe Delta Cruisers. Others commonly recommended are City Jets and Vittoria Randonneurs Hypers IIRC. Thanks. I've seen the selle r...

Cheap sprung saddle and supple tyre recommendation

Hi all, So I've moved house, (yay), and now I ride to the station. I didn't want to leave me brooks flyer saddle on a bike locked up outside the station, so I replaced with a "normal" saddle (on-one big nose). Anyway, I'm pretty sure this is the reason why I had acute SIJ pain today. So I'...
