Re: Getting a new MTB frame, will the fork fit?

The nutsert (I hope I'm using that term correctly) has basically fallen out... I was thinking that it might just be easier to upgrade the frame to something I like. You mean 'star fangled nutsert thingy' that fits about 1cm down from the top of the steerer tube? That is a 5 minute end-consumer type...

Re: Getting a new MTB frame, will the fork fit?

As you probably know, the seatpost, seatpost clamp, fd and headset aren't transferable from the old frame to the new. The bb shell of the new frame is also 5mm narrower so spacers needed to reuse the old bb. If the only problem you have is a loose rivnut or two, it is a simple matter to replace the...

Re: Buying a new bike technique?

she can't tell the difference between my bikes. The only ones that she can tell the difference between are if they are a radically different colour. If I say "the white one, as opposed to the black one", she just sort of nods; but I know she cannot tell the difference between the two white...

Getting a new MTB frame, will the fork fit?

Hi all, So I've had a problem with my specialized rockhopper comp 2012. Example listing: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/rockhopper-comp-2012-mountain-bike-19-inch-soiled--ec046906 EDIT One of the upper attachment points for the pannier rack has basically fallen out; the thread has c...

Re: Panniers LIKE Ortlieb, but cheaper??

Perhaps I'm being a little simple minded here, but rather than [ spend ] money on another pannier, would it not be easier and cheaper to just use one of the other ortlieb office bags from one of your other bikes? Realistically, you can literally only ride one at a time. I use the office bag every t...

Re: Panniers LIKE Ortlieb, but cheaper??

I have the front roller city and they're just about small enough that whatever is inside can be held on the flimsy handle. I think if I loaded a 20L back roller city, it would give up the ghost! If you are wanting to carry a decent amount of weight is a single pannier the best solution? It's not id...

Re: Panniers LIKE Ortlieb, but cheaper??

Re: Panniers LIKE Ortlieb, but cheaper??

I paid £80-odd for my back rollers.....£55 doesn't seem THAT unreasonable to me. I've been down the plastic bag liner route, and life's too short....buy decent kit and that's it over with. I've spent too long saving pennies, then wishing I'd just forked out a few extra quid. completely agree , life...

Re: Panniers LIKE Ortlieb, but cheaper??

Lining any old pannier with plastic bags will make it waterproof. I use two 'rubble' sacks to line my everyday1980s Karrimor 'Silvagard' pannier. Thanks, but no. I am not interested in doing anything like this; I don't really trust myself to seal it properly. I know I'm a student but I require a ba...

Panniers LIKE Ortlieb, but cheaper??

So I am interested in getting some 20L panniers, such as the waterproof Ortlieb back roller classics. I will keep looking for eBay auctions, however I'm not holding out much hope, even used ones seem to go for around £40 a pop after bids. I just need the one, really. So where would you get panniers ...

Re: Reporting some horrible driving

Thanks for the replies, all. I have reported it to M&S and provided them with full details, including registration number, location and time. Bob suggested that the police might have CCTV of the area, and given how central it is (wellington arch), I'm sure there's footage of the incident. The qu...

This isn't just an overtake, this is an M&S, life threatening overtake.

Can't do any harm - sure, but will it do any good?

That second bit is hilarious! :)
