Re: Raising Money for Charity

i'll have to look into jg, thought it was just straightforward. Do it, it is straightforward. If the charity that you are doing it for is already registered with JustGiving they are already paying the £15 monthly fee. Here is my report at the end of my JoGLE (http://www.justgiving.com/5blokes-end2e...

Re: Raising Money for Charity

I think much of the criticism was for the organised rides in exotic locations. Rides typically requiring a fairly large minimum donation of which half or more was to pay travel, accommodation, and other expenses. So if the participant raised only the minimum amount then much of the donations were p...

Re: Raising Money for Charity

No, one couldn't - which makes it so hard to reflect on without causing offence. If the money is given for a purpose (to go towards costs) then it's no different to receiving some energy drinks, a T-shirt or a bike :) I know what you're getting at though, and I guess it's actually the perceived &qu...

Re: Raising Money for Charity

We specifically kept “corporate sponsorship” to go towards cost and “individual sponsorship” went straight into the pot. Of the £4,155.00 corporate sponsorship raised, £2,130.91 (51.29%) went to Cancer Research UK. By “Using” the corporate sponsorship we got cycle jerseys and T-shirts printed with d...

Re: So confused on which way to go......

1 JOG is an awful place to finish 2 LE isn't much better, but at least there's some habitation! 3 It'll take over a day to get back home from JOG 4 You can have lunch in Penzance - get the train and be home that evening, comfortably 5 It's downhill on the map 6 The stuff about the prevailing wind c...

Re: November LEJOG

As others have said; “well done” on a sterling effort, but: I still can’t believe that you attempted it with so little thought. The blasé nature of your early posts highlighted just how under-prepared you were. Not for the cycling necessarily... but for the trip as a whole. Quotes: “We're currently ...

Re: Food advice sought

+1 for a full English / Scottish BUT... we were really relaxed about our leave time. We ate early then got ready, prepped our bikes (milled about for a while) so breakfast had settled by the time we were on our way

Re: what bike for LEJOG

What part of the LEJOG ride is the hardest?????? I actually found Devon and Cornwall very... well not "easy" but not "dificult" either. That's because I had cycled 800 miles and had my "cycling legs" on. Everyone we spoke to heading north said that "Devon and Corn...

Re: November LEJOG

The thing is i'm doing this for charity in winter so need a hook to ensure people will sit up and donate by thinking 'yes that is quite a difficult challenge and will involve a lot of suffering'. If I decide to do it in summer it's simply not enough of a challenge to get people to put their hands i...

Re: what bike for LEJOG

What part of the LEJOG ride is the hardest?????? Day 8 was the "hardest", despite being one of the "easiest" when looking at the mileage and the hill-o-gram (the elevation profile was refered to as the hill-o-gram!): http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=1028382 Some f...

Re: what bike for LEJOG

Hi Vix, I did JOGLE in June/July this year and if you only take two bits of advice from me please make it the following: 1. Read this forum for at least a month BEFORE you invest, organise or think about anything!!! It is a wealth of knowledge and will save you expense, time and effort. 2. ALWAYS li...

Re: iPhone apps/Garmin/Maps?

It's all personal choice... My choice was a Garmin Edge 705 which was flawless and meant that I always knew what was coming up and didn't have to stop to check directions. The only time we went wrong was if I missed a turn by not paying attention. If you go that way, do read the forums regarding the...

Re: has lejog ever been done on a bmx???

was thinking about cheating a little bit and have a friend in a car carrying cloths and spares etc for me and ill call him if I needed anything like tubes and things. How's this cheating? If you cycle from one end of the country to the other, well... you've cycled from one end of the country to the...
