Re: Strange place names

Near Orpington in Kent theres Pratts Bottom, Green Street Green, but what about pronounciation! near me in Cumbria we have Torpenhow pronounced tripenna and Aspatria - Spietrie.

Does anyone remember A.W.? I had the great pleasure of seeing one of his twin projector presentations back in the 70's I believe it was called To Hell and Back. It was set to the music of Peer Gynt with slides pefectly timed to the music so that some shots banged on to the screen whilst others gently faded into ona another, it was truly beathtaking.
It would be interesting to know if anyone else has seen any of his talks.

Re: What if you've over-done it?

It's sooooo easy to overdo it, one minute you feel fine the next you can barely turn the pedals but it does seem to be like a wall if you keep going you break through and feel stronger for it.
I was all for giving up on a 24hr ride but was persuaded to just try and carry on and after a while began to feel better and went on to finish the ride. Lets face it, at the end of a hard ride you get the most fantastic feeling of real achievement. So just hang on.

Re: Introductions - tell us about yourself

Hi,
My real name is Alan.
I am 64
Married (twice) with a son and five stepdaughters.
Favourite music, rock/country.
Work, retired
Bike, a Ken Bird tourer built in collaboration with YHA.

When I lived in the south I used to cycle regularly with the Wayfarers section of the West Kent DA.

Favourite trip, LEJOG with my then fourteen year old son, it took three weeks and approx. twelve hundred miles but without a doubt the best holiday ever.

I still love to cycle but get few opportunities now, the only cyclists I see are racing types not really the pottering type I prefer to ride with.
