Re: Heads Up- 26" Winter Tyres @ reasonable price

Slow. The Ice Spiker is an off road tyre. It's about the only thing that will cope with ice with an inch or two of snow on top, and will be better than anything else for freezing slush, but for dry tarmac with icy patches you would be better off with the Marathon Winter, or Winter (all Schwalbe) Th...

Re: OS bagging

A benchmark on the side of the Post Office at Newburgh, Lancashire, nice to see it marked on a turn of the 19th/20th century map, the old hand measured maps have an impressive degree of accuracy when you compare them side to side with a modern aerial view. https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-si...

Re: Viscount bicycles!!

Yes, Whippet is correct, it's a Sprint from 1982/3. I have one myself and regard it as my best bike - it handles well and rolls very smoothly. The transfer has the signature of Ian Hallam. Sprints were made in 5-speed, 10-speed and 12-speed variants. Mine is 12-speed, and I acquired a crashed 5-spe...

Re: Viscount bicycles!!

I have a catalogue from 1982 which is currently mislaid, there was a sprint sold in that year, it was 5 speed. The frame was I think the same as many other of their bikes of that era. There were also others with that frame, such as the Super Sport, and touring models. The frame was ordinary steel. ...

Re: OS bagging

I must congratulate Mr. Dopestrong for his eccentric interest. There is something life enhancing about seeking out little points of interest that most people don't notice or understand. Must admit i have been looking and finding the os benchmarks and trig points for about a year and half now it's a...

Re: OS bagging

Wow, 374 within 50k! There seems to be a lot within 1k which are more suited to a walking expedition as getting off a bike every few meters would be a nuisance. Might head off for the more far fling ones though; good themed ride. But please note speaking form experience a fair few will be no longer...

Re: R J Quinn road bike

to some folk an old bike is 'just and old bike' regardless of how much it cost originally. Sadly folk pass away and an old bike in a garage is just another junk item for the relatives to dispose of.

cheers

That is so true and i have rescued a few bikes in similar situations
