Re: Why do bicycle warranties differ so much? (e.g Cube and CRC)
a warranty which offers you less 'protection' than your legal rights as a consumer is pretty much worthless imho. if a frame cracked within a few months of purchase (of a fully built bike) i would not be happy with (and feel i would be legally entitled to) any thing less than a fully built-up replac...

i reckon there's more like 1700 cals in a proper portion of battered fish and chips (unless i'm on a diet of course - then there's only a 1000
) plus pop / beer and a doughnut....

Re: Chain line offset
i run a 1 x 9 setup and use all the gears. i only get slight chain noise in 1st (sounds like it's coming from the chain leaving the front ring). chainline is set so that the chain runs parallel in 5th gear - approx 47.5mm with a 135mm hub. chains (kmc x9 sl) last approx 2500m before exceeding 1% elo...

Re: 700c drop bar commuter switch to disc brakes
i've been researching a similar change. my thoughts are: brakes - tektro lyra , or bb7's. the tektro's seem good value but are 140mm diameter discs. if you go with bb7's make sure they are the road version which will be compatible with your existing sti levers. forks: kinesis crosslight 3 or dc19 .

Re: Lungs or Legs?
i appreciate Gearoidmuar's point about it always being the legs, but as per the op, on the face of it the symptoms are:
spinning = lungs
plodding = legs
spinning = lungs
plodding = legs

Re: Posting Tyres?
for folding a wire bead tyre see http://www.sheldonbrown.com/brandt/clincher-folding.html.
i have sent and received numerous wire bead tyres unwrapped with just a lable or tag - never had a problem.

Re: Posting a Frame - who is best/cheapest/easiest ?
Parcelforce is actaully very decent. Their 48hr service with insurance costs around £13 and has the bonus you can drop it off at a depot or larger post office, rather than wait at home for the collection service to arrive. Or they offer collection too. they also cover the highlands and some islands...

Re: friction shifting on rear mech
i have a dura ace bar end shifter fitted to an sjs straight bar thumb shift converter. i leave it permanently in friction mode and after a couple of rides instant and precise shifts were pretty much intuitive with a 9 speed casette.
