Re: Precednece when vehicle is looking a t x roads
They are stationery blocking trafic from other way proceeding - the're not parked up just have not had gumption to realise that unless queue moves they will be blocking box

Re: Riding on just a QR spindle with a broken axle
I too am perplexed as to whyt you would not fix it when you know its broken.
I once broke a dropout rear - THIS EXPLAINED WHY THE (sorry) rear wheel was rubbing.
After hearing a strange ctreaking sound coming from the front forks I'll never resolve to press on harder ( the down tube to to the fork blades split...)
It does seem more than a bit silly to keep riidng with it

Re: Patch Adhesives
Try Powerbond 806 adhesive- v. strong - will attach patches to base of splits at base of tube stem

Re: Lights again! Philips Safetride 80 or B&M Ixon experien
I've used the Ixon as follows; for some reason ( probably I had the money I had one and bought another. I've found the best thing is the run time 5hrs hours with both- on - on main and rural roads as part of a 3 hr post work ride. This is running both lights off the same rechargeable battery pack it comes with 2 outlets!
The other brilliant thing aout the German engoneering is the bracket- easy to put on and if you need a slight adjustment while riding- no problems
I dont know about the Phillips but I'd recommend the Ixon- even one lights well ands bdst of all lasts hrs

Re: 7speed to 8speed
As with a previous post this topic shows the Forums value, I was and wold be quite contnent with 7 speed ( and probably noticeably fitter too )
The post re using a 7 speed and the ( slight lack of alignment is dead good too.

Re: 7speed to 8speed
I use 8 speed cassettes (As I was told 7 spd were becoming diff to source) on touring bikes with drops bars.
All of the der. are Deore long drops - I've not had any problems with any of them.
The 8 spd shifters were hard to get hold of but can still be used successfully with a 7 spd cassette
I would say if it had been poss to keep getting 11-28 7 speed cassettes I would have

Re: Audax - What is it?
I've never really thought of it as someone elses favourite ride, and there are certain organisers whose routes I keep away from after having ridden them. Its not just the ride ( I can cope with that its the travel/accomodation expenses as well.
The first one I rode Rutland and Beyond ( old route years ago )- fitted my want of a ride - picteresque with not too much up and down for the hell of it

Re: Audax - What is it?
I posted for the the hell of it if the route ascends or descends as part of its natural progression ok the routes I dislike are when I asecend/descend and then descend again- why bother? If I'm planning a route and have to descend after an ascent ok but when theres the option to stay at that level or near it why bother? It hardly encourages riders to take part does it - especially bearing in mind that an organiser doesn't have to rate the route for AAA pts. some don't on the proviso it tends to put riders off.
Theres no guarantee that a rider has ascended the hill which gives the AAA pts -I've completed rides with AAA pts awarded but that does not mea n I've cycled up the hil ( this of course has only happened once or twice)

Re: Audax - What is it?
Its fun more than anything- with a decent route ie one that does not ascend AND descend hills for the hell of it, plus some good grub at the end and a welcoming host its the perfect way to spend a cycling day. Some riders race, others don't -its best to set of near the front and follow the others until theyt pass you or you lose the route sheet.
All sorts of bikes are ridden fancy dans, tatty and everything inb between. The other riders are in genral friendly and will help if they can should a problem arise- give one ago you'll find other riders pedalling at the same pace to talk to- you can then pour over the results printrd on line

Re: Hi Viz Clothing advice
Ensure any lights are mounted to the offside of your bike - I wear one on my r.upper arm held in place by elastic, a bodge job I'll admit but it seems to work as vehicles go out around me when passing. also when I've been a passenger I've noticed pedal reflectors seem to show up well
