Re: Mounting Bracket extending from handlebars

All the potential help has been really useful -I di want it to be 7" away from bars to clear all cables/brake levers mounted on top of drops. However I thjink I'm going to have to compromise due to the vibration.

The Nitto is a beautiful object but @60 its a bit much - still it stops me riding in the dark

Mounting Bracket extending from handlebars

I'm looking to mount a bracket from the bars going fowards to put my lights on.

I've looked at the various ones on sale but none are long enough _ I need something which is about 7"long I've mnaaged to improvise something but it vibrates far too much any ideas on how to stop this - its attached by a mixture of tie backs currently,

thanks in advance

Re: Chain-cleaning

To get to those hard to reach places use cotton buds and your cleaner of choice ( I once and only once cleaned a chain so much that rust developed on it _ the proverbial LBS that they could not believe what I'd done )

Re: Peaceful Road cycling in the Midlands?

There are quiet roads out near Wythall nr B'ham and also out towards Meriden but as ever a quiet road ain't a safe road if some idiot is racing down the road -ie around Nuneaton

Re: is frame size that important?

I've always preferred to ride a frame which is slightly too small according to the convential wisdom and that I feel comfortable on so I ride 23.5" touring frames as opposed to 25".

viisbility re cycle lane

This morning I wqas approaching a junction from the left onto a cycle lane only to look at a parked van and think no-one coming from the left would be able to see me as thier line of sight would be blocked by said van.

A car duly pulled out from the left their only comment when I pointed out they had crossed a stop line that "Well I've not injured you have I?"

I would be grateful if anyone knows of any trtaffic regs which relate to where vehicles are allowed to be parked so that when a traffic plan of ajunction is designed there is a no parking area for vehicles to obscure the line of sight of a vehicle which wants to pull out ?

Thanks in advance

Re: Rear bike light advice / recommendation ?

I'm a bit surprised when I see rear lights on bikes - I wear mine on my upper r.arm, attached by improvised elastic and zipties. i feel more secure as its higher and i think passing traffic moves further to the right -giving me more space and of course I don't have to remeber to take it with me when I get off the bike,

Re: cantilver brakes that work!!!

Just to add another dimension - blocks which are really good like Swisstops will also wear the rim.

Get the local bike shop to check out the rim it may need replacing

Re: How can I look like a "real" cyclist?

Have long hair down to your shoulders- scared off a doberperson after my wheels jammed and I put bike between me and it.

An inability to get rid off oil stains on hands / clothes also helps

Also you need a project bike

Re: audax or tourer, cliché question?

It all depends on how quickly you want to go and how much kit you want to carry when touring.

I've ridden various Galaxies and Super Galaxies on audaxes - you'll get round but its hard work and eventually conclude you need something lighter - so bought a Dolan cross - will take m/guards and a rack so I can use it for my weekly shop. Its also better for wanting to go quicker due to the zippier type geometry.

Overall I'd say pick the frame and forks and then ask local bike shop to build up the rest to your spec eg chain wheels cassette so you have a unique bike
