I'm guessing you're after a micro-adjust seatpost in order to replace the clamp-on style saddle.
Micro-adjust seatposts have an integrated clamp.
Should be 25.4mm (1 inch in old money)
Alloy ones can be had off ebay for about £10
Make sure the old one comes out and put grease on the new one to stop it seizing in.

Re: Lights: LEDs or incandescents?
LEDs are great, I soldiered on for many happy years with Ever Ready lamps and huge D-Cell batteries though.
Two rears seem to be the best way of being seen, one on the bike one on the rider (most rears come with a clothes clip)

Hub dynamos can freeze solid in cold wet weather. If you try and ride a frozen dynamo it will break.

The Shimano Tourney TX35 is fine for 7 speed hybrid/touring bikes. You'll need to find out if the mech hanger is brazed, bolt on or slot in, see photos

Most tourers use a combination of road and MTB stuff
Shimano road shifters work with shimano MTB rear mechs, but SRAM MTB shifters don't (1:1 Pull ratio on SRAM MTB rear mechs)

Re: Help! Need a lawyer - fork failure
A guy on a recent Channel 4 documentary was awarded £6000 in an 'out of court settlement' from a razor company when his faulty disposable razor left a small scar on his face (which was already scarred).
I would expect a claim in this case to be in excess of £10'000 considering the injuries described. A private dental bridge will cost £1500 alone.

Re: cycling under power lines
This is where I get shocked. There's a heck of a lot of high voltage wires in one area

Re: cycling under power lines
I get a shock in my shorts
when I pass under a certain set of double pylon cables in Maltby South Yorks. I guess the damp patch on the pad of the shorts conducts the charge.
Had it today, it is quite painful, very sharp.
It's only this set of pylons, no others.
Explained here: http://www.eta.co.uk/2010/11/29/cyclists-can-suffer-electric-shocks-near-power-lines

Re: Baskets to fit Raleigh Caprice bracket
Cheers, there are a couple of original ones on ebay but they're not cheap. Bike only cost £56 so to spend £20 on a basket would be daft. The plastic coating on the original wire ones doesn't look great when it peels off.
I'm off round the charity shops to find a wicker basket that I can 'engineer' to fit. It'll look a lot nicer than a scabby wire one.

Re: Raleigh Winner
Undo the allen bolt on the top of the stem (the 7 shaped bit) until it is raised slightly above the stem and tap it with a rubber mallet or a softened hammer. It should drop down into the stem seat again. This frees up the stem in the steerer tube. It's a good idea to remove the stem and pop some grease on it to prevent it seizing.

Don't forget some new rim tapes before fitting the tyres otherwise you may get some punctures.

Baskets to fit Raleigh Caprice bracket
I'm looking for a basket to fit onto the Raleigh Caprice bracket, I bought a wire mesh one from Wilkinsons, but it didn't fit.
Any ideas?

Derwent Valley Heritage Trail
On my O/S map this is marked as a trail where cycling is permitted.
It's 55 miles long and starts at Ladybower reservoir
Has anybody cycled this route?
What condition is the trail in and are there many walkers?

Shimano CT90 Crankset Recall Still Active
After giving my old 1995 Raleigh MTB a service I noticed it had the original CT90 Altus compact triple crankset on.
When checking this on Sheldon Brown's site I discovered it was recalled due to a manufacturing fault.
Shimano were replacing the cranksets for free.
I know that people in the USA had been getting replacements in 2010, but can't find any UK info other than a press release by Chain Reaction Cycles in 2007.
Anyone know if this recall is still active?
