Re: Brooks ? Because I'm Worth It?

I've never used a Brooks, but I recently purchased a "Selle An-atomica" saddle from the States (which is 'Brooks style') and took it away on a 2 week tour straight out of the packet. I generally struggle with saddles and prior to this have never found one that was really comfortable. This ...

Re: London to Cannes (or rather, Lyon). Travelogue

Sorry to keep adding to my own thread, but I've finally finished writing this trip up.

The only thing remaining (when I get time), is editing the many hours of HD video of the trip.

Thanks

Re: Cheap crossings to France

Have also used the LD lines Newhaven to Dieppe a couple of times. Very bike friendly, although the timetables can be a bit harsh. Dieppe is a a nice place o cycle through, and apparently one of the best French port towns in terms of cycling away. Once it said bike places were full, but we turned up ...

Days 1-6 are now completed - apologies - it's taking ages!
7-13 to follow.

Hopefully at some point will add some video too.

Re: Basic bike advice - baffled!

This is a topic that comes up a lot, and thank goodness because I was in a similar position a little while ago - looking for my first 'touring bike' - and this forum was invaluable. I was more generally a roadie before touring (and now do both), and having read loads on the subject of touring bikes,...

London to Cannes (or rather, Lyon). Travelogue

My friend and I started a trip from London to Cannes, back in September. Unfortunately we never made it all the way to Cannes, as we had to come back to the UK early for business, but we got as far as Lyon and raised a bit of money for charity as well. We did a bit of a blog as we went, but I'm now ...

Re: Touring Bike Purchase?

I've recently completed a 575 mile bike ride with a friend from London>Lyon (it was meant to be to Cannes, but that's another story). I did it on a new bike which I bought after much research on websites including this one. Having done London to Paris on my Bianchi road bike, I knew I wanted somethi...

Re: London to Cannes, through the Alps - any suggestions/tips ?

Unfortunately, this trip ended a bit early when we were called back to the UK to take care of a few urgent things for our business. We were very sad to have not made it to (or through) the Alps, BUT, we did make it to Lyons - which was about 575 miles - so still a big achievement for both of us and ...

Re: London to Cannes, through the Alps - any suggestions/tips ?

If anyone's interested, this trip is well underway and we've got a blog going for it.

Never done a blog before so it's a bit sparse, but we hope to update it more as we go. We'll also add a more detailed account of the trip as soon as we can.

Re: touring gearing

I've got a 48-36-22 triple on my bike which is about the biggest range you can get. ...... Thanks for all the replies. Tigerbiten - did you have to do anything complex to make 48-36-22 work? I've been told that a difference of 12 teeth is the max between each ring for Shimano- i.e. 48-36 would be O...

touring gearing

Hi I've got a new bike arriving next week (Ridgeback Velocity), and the week after that I'm heading off on a 2-3 week trip from London to Cannes with a friend. (I've got another thread here on it http://forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=41139). After agonising over a new bike (I did Paris on...

Re: London to Cannes, through the Alps - any suggestions/tips ?

I've just come across this comment on another thread here: Re: Eagerly Anticipated France Trip 2011 by nirakaro » Sun Aug 15, 2010 2:04 pm Somebody remarked on this forum a while back that pretty much anywhere in France is nice, as long as you don't go from Calais to Dijon and back! Can anyone comme...
