Re: UK coastal tour ideas?

has any one wild camped on beaches? what is the law regarding that? There are some local beaches here in south Devon people wild camp. Be warned that it tends to be teenagers! The local ones I know of are Strete Gate where I’ve seen people camping (there’s a public loos etc) and I gather some peopl...

Re: The gang of how many?

If Soubry et al were elected and the electorate knew they were remainers they have hardly been hippoctytical. That would have been the time to leave the party and stand as an independent. After all there's those on here claiming they're not elected on a party basis. We'll find out the truth of that...

Re: % Gradient sometimes shown

Yep- plenty of 17% plus in south Devin but it does tend to put me off when I’m not fit and as you say loaded is a challenge- I reckon close to my limit when loaded more due to bike balance than leg strength.

Re: The gang of how many?

Do you want an MP who always toes the party line and is just a face in the crowd or one who makes a contribution? I guess we wouldn’t have Jeremy Corbyn if we only got people who toed the party line.

Re: The gang of how many?

Hi, So a party is full off fools but one your local mp, they then do no follow the ideals of the people who voted for them, what do you do then look at another party? Does voting for an mp get you an election? Lets say you like what an mp says and does but you then find out that they are on the oth...

Re: Velodyssee Roscoff to Nantes - by Brompton??

I don’t know Roscof to carhaix Plouger (I was with the kids and we ran out of time so taxied that section) but after that the canal is fine to Redon. The roads from roscof to Nantes are ok but I haven’t tried the canal for that section.

Re: Your touring plans for 2019 - make me jealous?

Booked for first half of USA trip from mid April to end May. DC-Pittsburgh-Columbus-Indianapolis-St Louis-Kansas City-? Pueblo. The question mark is because him indoors and junior are flying out to join me after a month and aren't interested in seeing the back end of Kansas- they will pick me up whe...

Re: Your touring plans for 2019 - make me jealous?

I'm planning to ride halfway across France this summer, from Caen to a friend's house near Le Puy en Velay. (I was going to start at Saint Malo, but on the day I want to travel, Brittany Ferries are doing their exasperating "we won't sell you a bike space on this sailing because we'll get more...

Re: Rookie Cycle Tour from London to Trieste

Me too. If this is the race I am thinking of they had more drop outs than usual because it was extra extra cold. Your ride will be a lot easier than this (although no doubt it will have its Moments). I was going to suggest you consider getting the train to Dover so you get to start on the easy stuff...

Re: Rookie Cycle Tour from London to Trieste

Everyone has to start somewhere. I had absolutely no experience, had never tested the panniers on my bike, had to buy a new bike to do the trip- flew down to nice with a couple of friends to join another friend and cycled home. The first hill really hurt! But I was inspired and engaged by the experi...

Re: Rookie Cycle Tour from London to Trieste

I've now had a quick review of the cycle travel route on the laptop (couldn't zoom in effectively on the ipad). The mountain routes look good to me- you'll be following cycle routes and valleys. More than 50% of the route is on cycle ways although I don't recognise many of the names but I think that...

Re: Google Maps

I’ve had that in Google maps a few times too. I wonder if it’s a risk thing? Colleague at work suggested I look at komoot too (always interested to see different approaches). Agreed with other comments- my preferred option is cycle.travel.

Re: Rookie Cycle Tour from London to Trieste

There are plenty of lists knocking around about what to take, this seems a sensible outline to me. Don’t take more than absolutely necessary- you can build up on future trips. Don’t forget that campsites won’t all be open on the way out- it will be better on the way back but I think that some may st...

Re: Fly be bicycle carriage

I’ve flown with them a few times. I gather that some of their caution is due to the smaller size of aircraft eg going to the Scottish islands so if you’re on one of the bigger ones likely to be no problem unless your whole cycling club is going somewhere together. Our policy has always been to turn ...
