Re: Velo South closed roads sportive - good idea?!?
Worth remembering that there are hotspots for commercial road closing. I live in one which has been plagued by runners. 5 days last year trapped against the sea. We also have a sportive but it does not close the road - yet! Consistent pressure led to a reduction in number of roads closed (they don’t...

Re: Snow
Much happier in this stuff on the fatty than in a car. Even the black bits of today's ride were best avoided with a ton of metal if possible. Passed someone in a car (you know the brand, mutant Olympic symbol) in a full scale row with other cyclists - objecting to them being on the road (read his ro...

Re: Snow
Good to see the fatties out there having fun. Some great surfaces revealed this week but a hidden event was the high tides and east wind which has caused a change round on East Lothian’s beaches. Funny to see comments about a cyclist being stupid because he was wading through nearly a metre of snow ...

When the Airdrie Bathgate railway, a rails to trails Sustrans route was reopened, the path was retained beside the railway.

Had a near miss once in Herefordshire. Squirrel just missed me, dropped by a hastily departing buzzard. I did not have a magic hat.

On some of NCN7 the horse muck would be useful - for covering up the broken glass.

Re: Shared Path Abuse...Unusual Complainer..
Had someone give me lip for riding on the Speyside Way where it is a disused railway with signs promoting cycling. I was told it was not a bridleway (Nearest one was in Northumberland, over 200km away). Did not take too kindly to being told that that nonsense stopped at the border. She tried it agai...

Re: Village council prejudice against cyclists
The language is a bit much and this may be their only sport related closure. Where I live we get hit 3 or 4 times a Summer and living on the coast our only way out is by sea or a long walk to someone elses bus service. The extent of the closures increases every year with more or more side roads bein...

Re: Eight fantastic days - Hebrides/West Coast tour
The Highlands seem mobbed this year. Just back from a trip where mechanicals ruined my itinerary and found getting any sort of accommodation very difficult, similarly getting on buses was a challenge at times.
I am going to have to figure out a way of sticking a tent on my backpacking rig.

Re: Cyclists Dismount
Northumberland CC seem to have got the idea that we cannot handle any of their cattle grids. Every grid between Carrycotts and Kirkwhelpington has our favourite blue sign either side of it. How much did this cost? The red triangle is warning enough for those who are not confident or in wet weather. ...

Still a relatively hassle free existence as a keen hacker on a bike in Lowland Scotland, unlike my visits to England - how do you live with such restrictions on your movements? However a big worry, mentioned above is the attacks on camping using the dirty car/van roadside campers as an excuse for co...

I know one who actively boasts that one of the perks of his job is leaving thorns on the road after cutting hedges.

Re: Berridale braes
Both my trips on the northern A9 this year were notable for light traffic. OK, busy compared with anything around Altnaharra, but nothing too unpleasant. Further south in Easter Ross is another matter and there were short sections that I had to use from one yellow road to another that were pretty fr...

Make sure you book Rogart - I have failed to get in almost every attempt. It is good.
Last week could have done with it, hiding from a thunderstorm in the station waiting room before a very wet camp at Dornoch (not the £23 a night campsite).
