Re: Cycle - you must be sport

I would probably never have started cycling (aged 27) if I hadn't recently discovered the Walkman. It was 8 years before the rave scene came to my neck of the woods and it's gradually dawned on me since that what I've been doing is dancing . 27 years of cycling and though these days I quite often ma...

Re: Have you customized your bike?

This is somewhat out of date, but it gives the general idea.
13 year old alloy MTB used for daily transport, shopping, Sunday rides and 2 day camping trips.

Re: 'Bike shaped' bike light?

The word "design" used to count for something.
These days it makes me expect to be disappointed when it relates to an area of life I have an interest in.

Re: 'Bike shaped' bike light?

I wear a black jacket and a Sam Brown belt - not that the police wear them any more.. plus my lights are simply unusual (but not blue or flashing) I suspect it's my upright posture and stern expression. I may have related this before, but I once had an ambulance follow me up my street and ...

Re: 'Bike shaped' bike light?

Possibly even more crap than that stupid one that uses a laser to project a green bicycle on the road ahead. There are plenty of drivers out there who will automatically overtake or pull out in front of something they know to be a bicycle because of their perception that they will be "held up&q...

Re: Wearing a camera

I tend to go for being discrete which is why I put off replacing my torch-like cameras for so long - I won't be upgrading my rear camera until I've come up with a DIY housing.
Though I have long thought I need to come up with a number plate and "YOU TUBE" is one of the options ...

I would have needed a bit more weight on the other side as a counterbalance.

Re: Two years of commuting - learnings and questions

For the first 20 years of commuting - until I started doing longer distances and camping, I relied purely on my rear wire basket - into which I put a day bag - which could be worn in extremis . My panniers are a small £15 pair and mostly come into their own for shopping but I keep them on anyway. I'...

Re: A rant about Rule 170 Highway Code

At one point on my morning commute, I have a choice between riding on the road or on the widened shared pavement with dropped kerbs. I seem to recall that there used to be a continuous painted cycle lane on the road itself, but there is now just a dodgy crack in the tarmac that the council don't see...

Re: Fog

I have fog lights. Well my rear one is - 49 LEDs mounted in two concentric circles - like laser beams - I'm amazed motorcycles don't have them. For some reason the white one on the front doesn't seem as effective. I've been weaning myself off using it in ordinary dark conditions and plan e...
