Re: Cycle camera and useful book/videos to watch?

It gets to you eventually I'm afraid - especially if you fit it facing backwards so you see just how thoughtless both car drivers and other cyclists can be. I've ended up very sensitive to bad behaviour on the roads. In fact the cyclists are "winning" at the moment. I don't always wear a h...

From her, presumably.
Our presence on the road illuminates their lack of engagement in a potentially lethal activity.

Re: Rivets for Brooks Saddles

I'm gradually getting the bits together to repair my Brooks and have gone for copper rivets because I couldn't see how I was going to be able to work with the steel ones with limited workshop facilities / skills ...

Presumably I need a suitable anvil with a hole in tp peen the blind side ?

Re: Saddle for 17.5 stone rider

Another recommendation from an 18 stone rider for the Spa Nidd. My Brooks B17 did seem to be getting a bit too hammocky - but it was actually the frame that broke - following the adjuster bolt and the nose. The Spa is quite daunting when you first fit it - totally like concrete - or at least wood. I...

Re: Cycling with earphones in

If you choose to try it - on a quiet path or road, I can thoroughly recommend Koss KSC75 clip-on phones. Not much over £10, amazing sound quality for the money, and so open to outside sounds that I have some interesting experiences with the ambient electronica I listen to - it often features birdson...

Re: Cycling with earphones in

I almost never cycle without music.

Just lately I've come to realise that the there have been instances where I've missed out on useful audible cues - and that was when being dangerously drafted and cut-up by other cyclists.

I should add that Wilkinsons have a poor rep for how they keep their prices low.

Re: Drinking bottle

I always have water on my bike - even on my short winter commutes and cycle through a fair amount of slurry, but I've never had any problems with Wilkos cheapies - I have 3 on the go - filled up at the office plumbed-in cooler and drink the water at home too. I don't have a fridge so it's handy to h...

Re: Spa Saddles.

I broke my B17 last April - at the point where it had become the most comfortable saddle I'd ever owned - one day I will get around to fitting a new frame. In a sulk, and somewhat desperate, I ordered a Nidd, and for the first weeks it seemed like it was made of concrete - the broken-in B17 was like...

Re: Bad driving and worse attitudes.

Luckily nearly all my interactions happen in suburbia, at slow speed, but I have a very low tolerance of being tail-gated even at 15MPH on the flat. I currently only have one functioning camera on my bike, but I now use it on the back. Sooner or later I will have Youtubed the registration of every d...

Re: Small portable cable cutters for touring

How about preparing the cables ready for use ?

i.e. make sure the ends are glued or soldered so they don't fray. Leaving them a bit long isn't the end of the world.
In terms of minimising the spares carried, I've sometimes wondered if I could make do with just the longest gear inner, plus adaptors...

Re: Fed up getting abuse from other roas users

I had one incident about 20 years ago where the miscreant said something that had me searching for brain bleach for some time. A very twisted individual. I find sounding my car horn and flashing my lights, and in the main being mostly satisfied with putting their antics on Youtube tends to be less r...

Re: Chain Scrubbers - Yay or Nay?

I think I concur. I went for years never cleaning, just just slopping on random lube - such as SAE30 gear oil ... latterly I had a jar of engine oil with a paintbrush - and I swear I got better life out of my transmission - to the extent that I actually used to take my bike to a shop every few years...
