Just digging up an old thread.
If you are still about, I am curious how that is going for you?
It is quite a jump.
I am curious how you went about it as well.
Did you do it step by step?
As in did you try anything in between?

I went straight from 170 to 140: felt a bit weird at first but soon got used to it. I adjusted the gear ratios by the same percentage and it worked for me. Cadence increased by the same percentage. I could not detect any hit on performance. Ridden for some years now and great for my knees.
Also good for heal clearance on my FWD lowracer. No negatives.
Still got 140 on my daily commute trike, but now trying 155 on my weekend trike as I was not happy with the Q factor on the 140s I had (I am quite slim, so narrow hips) and 155 was the shortest I could find with a low Q (TA Carmina"), without going to custom shortening. They seem fine so far, but only 3 rides.

Currently for me the site is parked, but whois shows Karl has it till "Expiry date: 07-Apr-2016"

Hopefully just a glitch ?

Re: Front derailleur for 24/34/40 ?

Minor update: I changed the smallest ring from 28 to 24 and the CX70 still shifts perfectly over now 24/34/46 even though the range is now 6T more than the CX70 spec.

True for the current recall, although people who bought second hand would not be aware (true the the warranty *may* not cover it, but it would be nice that they knew so that they had option of fixing it !)

In the case of my seat failure *maybe* the recall came after mine had been replaced, so they did not contact me ?

Was that an official recall: if so that it never got to me, although maybe that was because my 2008(?) seat frame did break, and was replaced (without problem).

Also: I missed it from my original post, but can anyone find a link on the Hase page to the Recall notification PDF ?
Should be prominent !!

Recall kettwiesel and lepus 2010/2011

This just popped up on my radar, from the HASE BIKERS Forum:

RECALL KETTWIESEL AND LEPUS

In the course of our ongoing product-evaluation work, we have discovered that some Kettwiesel and Lepus models have unfortunately been sold with drive bolts that, under certain circumstances, could pose a safety risk associated with material failure. In extreme situations, these bolts can fail.

Affected Kettwiesel models: January 2010 - December 2011
Affected Lepus models: February 2010 - December 2011

You can find further information on our website: http://hasebikes.com/files/drive-bolt_recall.pdf

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this recall may cause!

Re: Bottle dynamo placement. Am I mad?

FWIW my Kett came from Hase with a bottle dynamo mounted in the same fashion.
Worked OK: no noticeable pull, but replaced it with a quieter, less slip prone, hub dynamo !
Just noticed you can see an example here: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=57699&view=unread#p825492

Re: Front derailleur for 24/34/40 ?

I bought a CX70 and just fitted it last weekend. First thing I noticed is that actually the large ring on my bike is 46T, not 40T as per my gear chart !!
But the CX70 does shift perfectly over 28/34/46 even though the range is 2T more than the CX70 spec. (I did not try it with the 24T: 28T is plenty low enough for a day bike and I had the 28T already !) and it is a triple (CX70 spec. is for 2 chainrings).
(I had first also tried 28/46 (46 on the middle ring position) and it also changed perfectly, but I decided that as I already have the 34 I prefer the smaller steps, and with the 34T I can spend 95% on my ride on 1 ring !)
Thanks for all the tips/pointers above.

Re: Front derailleur for 24/34/40 ?

Thanks for all the tips: Googling further I see:
- Shimano CX seems to have a lump in it, suggesting a minimum ring difference ?
- all the old models I have looked at (suggested on the thread) seem to have a small diameter than my 32mm tube has: I guess too-large can be shimmed, but too small is difficult !: maybe a 32mm braze-on adapter with an old, braze-on, model would work ?
- I measured the chainline (difficult) at 45, although research suggests it is probably 47.5, so not sure if a CX70 rated at 43.5 would go far enough ?!

Valbrona wrote:I guess you are using Shimano

Yes: no model#, just '9 speed', but shifters and rear are SRAM.

Valbrona wrote:And also, with very small outer chainrings it can be difficult getting the FD low enough down the seat tube

I was hoping a top mount SRAM may help there ?

Valbrona wrote:Interlock Racing Design do an Alpina Front derailleur

Thanks, but their website showing the current model only recommends down to 48 :-(

Valbrona wrote:What chainset are you using anyway?

Thorn: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/thorn-110-74 ... -prod1673/

Further note: I am not worried and indexing, shifting under load, ramps... I just want it to change OK as I spend 98% time only on the middle ring !

Thanks for your reply: in my Googling the CX70 was one that I found, but the specs are 46-52 top and 2x. But maybe it would work for me ?

Front derailleur for 24/34/40 ?

As I use short cranks I have corresponding small front chainrings. Although the 40T outer may be a problem my main problem is with the small 6T step 34->40. The current front derailleur just about manages, but often throws the chain off.
I see the problem is the bulge in the inside to the cage designed to help the chain up, but this is usually optimised for >10T.
Does anyone know of a front mech. that can handle my setup, either with the correctly placed bulge, or with straight plates that do not care about the size of the jumps ? (chainline is road triple: 47.5)
TIA, Simon
