Re: Ambrosio or shimano hubs?
by sprightly I meant light, open pro rims and 23mm tyres, that sort of thing. I'm not heavy and try to carry as little as possible on audax rides, so 130mm hubs it is. Good point about Shimano hubs being slightly less dished. Looks like 105 will carry the day (cheaper too!) Now Brucey, is there any ...

Ambrosio or shimano hubs?
I run campag 10speed shifters and mechs on my audax bike. I want some sprightly 'traditional' (32 spoke 3 cross) wheels. I cant afford campag record hubs. Should I buy Ambrosio zenith hubs which will fit campag cassettes, or buy shimano hubs (probably 105 but possibly ultegra) and run a campag space...

Re: Where is the line between a BSO and a cheap proper bike?
I won a 'mountain bike' in a raffle once. It was called a rapid reactor... I rode it to work, but only once, and christened it the torpid tractor. Months later I met a chap who had bought the same model, very cheaply and made a few inexpensive swaps (grips, saddle, tyres etc). He'd also enjoyed hims...

Re: Are there any group rides/events similar to...
I've driven to the start of audaxes, but also ridden to some too. Some folks ride overnight to the start, do an event then ride home again, but such feats are always treated in a wonderfully understated way. I sometimes think of audax as being touring for the time poor. I can see as much in a weeken...

Re: Are there any group rides/events similar to...
Audax is brilliant! Great routes, cafe stops worked out for you and great camaraderie. Be aware that they are highly addictive though, I started out with local 200km rides, then almost inexplicably found myself traversing Lincolnshire in the middle of the night... I've ridden a good few on my tourer...

Re: ergoshiftless
Some progress has been made, thanks to plusgas. It does appear that it was the pawl swivel jammed up. You (collectively!) were right that it was easy to see when I had a look. I should have done so first, but 1, feared the percieved complexity and 2, had already had a terrible week for breakages (tr...

Re: ergoshiftless
Thanks chaps, i ll give it a spray first then. Hopefully that should do the trick. I spent yesterday pulling the cable on the downtube to change down, like playing the double bass! Much to the amusement of club mates...

Ok, my 1998 9speed veloce levers have given excellent service, but today when i went to downshift there was no response from the thumb button. It still moved but with no resistance. The lever will still shift up. Could any one tell me what is most likely to have failed, and if I can get spares. Than...

Re: campag and ultegra....
Thanks for the replies, It's helpful to get such a range of views and experience. Think I'll make it a campag mech, on top of everything else, the ultegra mech is nothing like as shiny as a veloce one! Its good to know that I can probably stretch its stated capacity somewhat. I've messed around with...

campag and ultegra....
just wondering if anyone knows any cause or just impediment why these two may not be joined together in holy matrimony? specifically veloce 10 speed levers, campag 10 speed cassette, but with an ultegra 10 speed rear mech. I need a new mech and ultegra ones seem a little lighter and (medium cage) wr...

Re: legal lights
don't have an ASDA near me unfortunately. Are any of the other ASDA lights BS compliant? I can't tell from their website.

Re: legal lights
Just been in the shed, found a little rear lamp I bought from ASDA for a fiver, It's not very bright, but it does last for ages, so I thought i'd stick it on the commuter. Guess what! Its got the right BS code stamped on it. As long as it's on constant, that's the rear taken care of! http://direct.a...

Re: legal lights
I'm after some battery powered LED lights that conform to the relevant BS3648 or BS6102/3 standards. I have other lights that are plenty effective enough, i just want some cheap additional lights that comply with the letter of the law, (so that in the event of an accident I wont be held partly to b...
