Re: I want to pay road tax!

Exemptions required for car owning cyclists.

If I'm riding my bike I am not driving my car I have already paid VED on.
Maybe even a rebate as the cycle is zero emission, less congesting and less damaging to wear and tear of the road surface. Would this rebate be worked out on the average persons use and applied globally or would we have to keep a milage log and submit at the year end along with car finantial / milage accounts to work out a pro rata rebate?

Also exemption for those younger cyclists under the age of legal responsibility who own a non adults bike.

That should keep the pen pushers busy for a while and raise the eyebrows of the anti bikers.

Re: Head Cameras

If just for proof of fault then the £20 ish bullet cameras zip fastened to your helmet are fine. Put a reasonable card in giving 1 to 2 hours recording on a rolling loop and if the (usual) battery life of under an hour isn't enough then plug in or wire a decent recharcheable battery into it.

Total cost around £25, unlimited recording and hours of life on 1 charge. It isn't the same as a top end cam but for commuting / long ride proof of incident it's perfect.

Why not? Most of Europe use round pin plugs / sockets.

How else could you get a decent connection whilst the equipment the plug was supplying was plugged in?

You don't need to have the appliance on to earth test it. Can be done using the plug pins and resistance testing (ohms) so no need for a hole for that.

Re: Tour of gods own county?

Spa isn't on Wedderburn Road anymore but now on an industrial estate in Starbeck under a mile away.
Not really much to see there though as everything is in the warehouse behind the 'shop' counter apart from a few clothes, lights and saddles etc.
You'll need a shopping list, it is more of a mail order place now where you can pick up at the counter rather than have stuff posted really.

Same advice and stock as of old.

Re: Ten most dangerous Leeds road junctions

Just driving along the inner ring road an hour ago, from the Kremlin going towards the Evening post building. Very heavy traffic. As I passed the slip road from the university etc joining the inner ring road (last joining slip just before the long tunnel) a cyclist wizzed onto the dual carriageway and along into the tunnel. Was a proper roady too, ribble winter bike etc. madness. Despite it being a motorway so illegal that slip road regularly has car shunts and the tunnel itself is dark and heavily trafficked with nowhere to go to swerve if it all goes wrong. Type of cyclist who should have known better as well.

I've seen riders on it before but never along that stretch. Hope he made it!

Re: Ten most dangerous Leeds road junctions

The two most dangerous junctions probably get the numbers of collisions they do because;

The no 1 spot is in one of the most deprived areas of the city hence a higher proportion of local 'youves' etc and others, sprint around on all sorts of cheap bikes and ignore all laws let alone red lights and traffic measures plus ride up and down the kerbs and paths, wrong way along the road etc. I see it all regularly when passing through there

The no 2 spot (and many of the others below in the list) are around Headingley where again, Students whilst more sedentary, routinely ignore the lights on a large scale - I see this regularly too as I work around that area.

As said above there are many more dangerous junctions than these in Leeds but probably a lower number of short distance local 'non cyclist cyclists' if you know what I mean, so fewer accidents.

Re: A bigger school run?

A village I used to live in near Leeds has a primary school.
A neighbour of ours used to put her two children, around 8 years old, into her car every morning at 08:50.
She would then drive them to school a quarter of a mile along the Main Street that both they and the school was on. Invariably she would be smoking a fag in the car.
She would repeat this to collect them in the afternoon.

As the car was invariably cold therefore at it's most polluting every time she did it she was heavily polluting, congesting her non immediate neighbours road and adding to through traffic on the Main street the same as commuters taking a short cut.

The walk at a slow pace takes just over 5 minutes.

You will never stop people like her doing this. Not even at £20 gallon. If they're thick enough to smoke they have no reasoning abilities or care for others. Hence She will continue to save herself 10 minutes every day and balls to everyone else.

Re: 2011 Ultra Galaxy clearance

It's great news that Spa have finally moved premises, if nothing else but for the benefit of the staff, therefore hopefully having a better and easier working environment and the whole picture being more relaxed and this filtering to the customers.

To the OP, I cannot understand why you would not want to travel to Spa. It's one day to do it. You'd spend half a day going to a reasonably local LBS anyway by the time the bike is sorted.
The cost is irrelevant as the bike is discounted below the cost of your LBS's anyway so the net effect is it's cheaper even with the cost of the train ticket.

Why don't you take the train, book a B&B for the night, get your bike sorted, then go for a ride. Spa is on the doorstep of some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK. Pop back to Spa with any small issues to be tweaked if you have any the following day, nice lunch in Harrogate and the train home. All paid for and still cash in your pocket from the lower cost of the bike?

Internet isn't everything you know

Re: Halfords 'Lifetime Warranty'

Me too, broken straight from the box. Having major issues trying to get it replaced. Store manager is a ****. SOGA for me, clearly not fit for purpose if breaks before even being used.

My issue is the receipt is archived in the business accounts.

So where else would I get a brand new Halfords spanner unused and broken.

Thats because the fruit and veg is ripe and ready to eat, unlike the semi frozen fruit for months the supermarkets store.
