Re: Trailers and trains.

Understand that. Just thought that as flights were too expensive and Harwich too far it might have been an option to mainland europe then a train or hire car to denmark.

Hence the post!

Re: Trailers and trains.

North sea ferries from Hull to Rotterdam or Zebrugge
AFAIK they go from Newcastle too. Thats a lot nearer to you than Harwich.
Both overnight.

Re: serious accident on my commute to work

Hope you recover quickly and are soon back on the bike. Sounds like the usual quick glance in the mirror then swing a fast u turn. Nasty.

Lets look at this objectively. Your the judge in court on Wednesday morning. OP gives his story. you would probably give 100% judgement to the OP. The driver really doesn't have much of a defence.

As the judge I would ask what the speed limit was. If 20mph and the OP admitted doing 30 (the driver might not be expecting a 'vehicle' to appear so fast in the mirror), then prob 50/50 or maybe 100% in favour of the driver as vehicle behind (OP) speeding.
If limit is 30mph or more, this is a guideline, was it safe to do 30 or more at that point on the road?
If yes, 100% judgement to the OP.

Same senario. The OP gives the same story but somewhere in the evidence includes saying;
frankly vaughan wrote:Fine if i was doing 10 mph i may have had time but i'm a racing cyclist and was probably doing about 30mph.Critisise me for that if you like but it's what i do,i go fast.

Need I say more? It insinuates a slight 'red mist' attitude and lack of reading the road ahead. It may be unfair in the circumstances but there we are. The best the OP could hope for from me as the impartial judge would be 50/50 and that is most likely what I would give.

Or another way of looking at it is, would the OP say that line in court? If no (and he would be mad to say it wouldn't he), then the OP must realise it isn't the way to ride and keep out of trouble on a city street by not including it as the truth on the day. If yes then live by the judgement that would follow.

However all the above in this instance is irrelevant as the driver hit and ran.
So my judgement would undoubtedly be 100% in OPs' favour as the driver had something to hide, ie dangerous driving, drink / drug related, etc etc.

I'm just making the points above, not having a pop at the OP and sympathise with him. I hope you manage to track down the scumbag that left you on the road in pain and get him / her into court. Good luck with it.

Reccomend me cheap loose fit shirt pref with back pockets

It's for the road bike but prob will be a MTB top I would think. Don't always want to be in tight fit licra on a hot day.

So looking for a looser fit shirt, pref with short zip on chest / neck to vent and rear pockets for the bits and pieces. I'm not a fashion victim so price is more key.

Tried looking on the main web shops and discounted but they all seem to be plain T's and don't say whether pockets or not.

Cheers

^^^^ Same here.
Item shown in stock (other colours showing as out of stock so stock record seems to be working), 1 week on and just had dispatched today email (first class). 3 days on still waiting for it.

Same cheap price in 2 other online shops, next time I'll use somewhere else unless super, super cheap from Ribble.

Re: Best Air Mattress

Re Alpkit, totally agree with all comments and usually say the rest is overpriced in comparison.
However in this instance I would say its worth paying the extra for the Exped. Over priced, yes, but what price for a good nights sleep in all weathers. One of the only purchases i've made that Alpkit do and paid more for another brand and think money well spent.

Just the opinion of a tight Yorkshireman who wouldn't say that lightly.

Re: Best Air Matress

I like to sleep properly when touring. So I bought an Exped 3" matress, full sized one.

Packs small, weighs 1 kilo, integrated pump, warm to -20 and surprisingly comfy (I'm 6 feet and 83 kilos). Main thing is not to inflate it too hard then it is really comfy. :D

Around £120 if you shop hard  but you won't regret it.

renewing chainset advice needed please

I have an old (but in good nick) trek 7000 mountain bike that I bought around 1997 ish. It's been in the garage for a few years as I keep intending to use it as a winter commuting bike as it's quite quick being an ali frame and it has a place in my heart from the thousands of miles I did on it in the past. I love riding it, great in traffic!
Every year I get it out to sort it but with the never ending changes of equipment I get lost trying to source replacements. They are always advertised as a model number but not the speed ie chain width suitability etc. So back she goes into the garage for another year.

It is a 21 speed (7 cog cassette and triple chainring). The cranks are mc34 170mm with a 22, 32 and I assume a 42 outer, assume as it has gone missing. I have a new cassette for the rear wheel - 7 cog, and new 7 speed chain in the bike drawer from years gone by.

The 22 is in good nick as are the cranks so I need to change the middle and large rings as they are damaged.

My questions are;

1 Do you know which rings would fit this and what I would look for in an ad, or better still the model numbers?

2 Or would it be easier to buy a complete chainset to fit the square bottom bracket as I need middle and top rings + set of allen screws as they are missing. If so what model numbers would fit?

3 Ebay or any other sources you can recommend for this retro stuff? I'm in Leeds, Yorkshire.

It's a balancing act of cost against the bikes worth but want to fit at least reasonable replacements.

Any help greatly received.

Thanks

Peter
