Re: Hindhead's lazy downhillers

Are those mountain bikers physically able to climb any hill on their bikes? I'd guess not. I belong to MTBE forum and most of the videos posted on there are downhillers pushing their bikes up 5% hills and then skating down them. They even have 'uplift' meetings where they are trailered to the top o...

Re: Longevity in cycling

Well, I'm one of the 'sport' riders here ... possibly the only one ....?

Having raced road, time trial and track, I'm now enjoying the non-competitive aspect of cycling and will mention the 'we don't do sport' comments next time one of our group decides to go for it on an uphill section.

Re: changing double over to compact.

I did this change a while ago and had to shorten the chain and take the front mech south a bit.

My prayers are with you for 34 x 25 up some of the FW climbs!

Re: Tyre fitting blues!

Just bought a pair of Schwalbe Durano tyres in 26 x 1.35 from Planet X. One of the easiest 'first fit' tyres I've ever had - thought they'd sent 700c for a moment!

Re: Senior Moments

Best 'get out' moment that I ever saw from a senior moment was by Conrad Frost, creator of the George & Lynn cartoons. My wife knew his wife and we went around for some tea. Conrad (about 80 then) made the tea but gave me a cup with just a teabag in it. His wife said:- 'Conrad, look what you've ...

Re: loss of sight in one eye

My left eye is 'lazy' and I've had this since the early 1950s. Never had a problem with cycling or driving.

Re: SPD release issue

FWIW, I've always used SH-51 single release cleats and never had a release problem, even in really thick off-road mud.

In the 1960s, my choice of rims was either Fiamme or Milremo Super Champion. Both very good.

Re: Senior Moments

I once put a loaf of bread into the washing machine after a senior moment. Fortunately my underpants didn't go into the bread bin ..... AFAIK!!

Re: Old cyclist, and a little sad.

It's all changed, HW. I've been riding 46 years and in the mid 1960s, it was customary to greet other cyclists, as we were in such a minority. If I had to sum up the changes in one words I'd say .... Beijing! The success of GB in the 2008 Olympics now means that everyone wants to do it as a sport, j...

I managed to get some nice ITM padded bar tape for £2.50 per roll at the closing of the old Sigma Sport shop. Very pleased with it.

Re: Horribly unfit

I can't understand why people don't ride over the holidays

I always ride to my bruv-in-law's for Xmas dinner and back again at about midnight (about 60-mile round trip). This is my 'passport' to eating there until partial loss of sight with a clear conscience!
