The reason dogs chase is a number of factors , mainly it's cause fast moving object stimulate the dogs prey drive , the built in genetic desire to chase & catch it's food ...
Whilst the dog is in this drive it is confident & determined . As has been said if you slow down or stop the dog MAY become disinterested, as it's drive diminishes .
However a determined dog sees you stopping as a threat and switches it's drive to defence then you might see teeth , hackles up deeper barking .
It all comes down to individual dogs , strangely like humans dogs come in all packages & some are more aggressive due various factors .
