Re: Can't cycle very fast downhill

I've just calculated that if I could maintain a cadence of 900 rpm I could average 295 mph. Something to work on :D

After all, a car can kill like a gun and gun owners are evaluated.

Cars and guns don't kill, people kill.

Re: Wrongheaded - the campaign against compulsion!

I'm not saying that I agree with compulsion I don't. It should be a personal choice. I'm unsure whether the evidence you provide proves a statistical link or whether there are other factors at play. For e.g. it's true to say western societies are generally becoming more sedentary, and that this is a...

Re: Wrongheaded - the campaign against compulsion!

Are there any countries where wearing a cycle helmet is compulsory? If so do these countries have a worse health record than those where there isn't compulsion?

Re: Wrongheaded - the campaign against compulsion!

Hmmph. I don't see the link between inactivity and wearing cycling helmets. How is the fact that there are health issues arising from a sedentary lifesytle either an arguement for or against wearing cycle helmets? The two would seem unrelated. In some circumstances wearing a helmet could prevent ser...

Re: advice on mudguards for audax

For a variation on this theme, try riding a sportive with mudguards - the reactions you get are quite startling . Cycling never ceases to discover new forms of multiple snobbery inversion. I've just ridden a sportive. Some had mudguards, some didn't, most had light weight road bikes, some had toure...

Well I'm one of those that have fallen for the fashion bike lightweight carbon frame and forks with 23mm tyres. I can't say that I am uduely uncomfortable on the bike and have never sufferred discomfort from road buzz. Ocassionaly there will be a bit of vibration on particularly poor surfaces but th...

Bib Tights to pad or not?

Hi All, Happy New Year. I'm new to this winter cycling lark and have been getting by wearing several layers of running tights with base layer thermals. I've been thinking of investing some cycling bib tights, but by 'eck they're expensive. Am I better of with a pad or without a pad. I can see that w...
