Re: Knocked off my bike yesterday

Funny thing is my accident has made me much more aware when I am driving my car.... I always thought I was pretty aware of a cyclists needs when meeting one on the road, being one myself and all, but I now find myself actively looking out for them and other potential road hazzards as opposed to going into auto-pilot, the all too easy thing that we motorists can do on familiar journeys.
I think hitting people where it hurts ie in fines, compensation and higher insurance premiums and a real chance of being prossecuted would go some way to making people more careful but judges need to stop handing out such paultry fines. Motorists really need to be hit hard if they knock a person off their bike .... its the only way!

Re: Bicycle Tax

Good grief! Seriously?........ You seriously want to "road tax" bikes????? Well I guess you would have to start taxing zero emission cars before you start taxing bikes!

Re: Knocked off my bike yesterday

@bensonboo
I can't believe you have that attitude....perhaps if more drivers were prossicuted for these offences and had the expense of points and higher insurance premiums for years to come motorists might treat cyclists with the care and consideration they deserve! I think it is too easy for motorists to get away very lightly when they cause these types of accidents and it is mainly down to negligence and ignorance on their part.
The laws and attitudes of this country are at present weighted so far against cyclists that I am not surprised that we have the lowest uptake of cycling in Europe. If we are to stand ANY chance AT ALL of changing this there has to be a COMPLETE change of attitude towards cycling and cyclists and that HAS to be Government led. Untill it becomes a high priority for ALL our politicians and not just Boris we will never win the fight and get the provisions that will enable everyone to cycle in relative safety!
Incidentally I too was knocked off my bike 5 weeks ago. I speak as a cyclist, a car driver and a lorry driver... oh yeah... and as a female!
