Re: Winter clothing
Many thanks for all your advice. I've decided to go with the Lusso Repel tights and a long-sleeved merino base layer for now. I'll add a jacket once I've seen how warm this lot keeps me.

Because I'm getting old and can't face the thought of braving another cold snap! Maybe over trousers aren't the answer though.
Do rain legs keep the underwear dry?

Winter clothing
I've spent the last few years commuting to work and as each winter has approached I've slowly upgraded my kit. I've now got good lights, high-vis gloves and waterproof panniers but I think it's time I tried something more warm / waterproof than a fleece and shorts.
I only travel about 8 miles each way on hilly roads but I sweat a lot. When I get to work I've got a locker to store my work clothes in but I haven't got anywhere to dry cycle clothes (so if stuff gets wet, then I cycle home in wet clothes). I've trawled the web but haven't come up with any clear advice on whether I need a single (very expensive) goretex trousers and jacket, or a series of cheaper wickable layers.
What do other people wear during wet / cold winters and what would you recommend?
Thanks for the advice
