Lots of 'em don't wash, either. Bad smellars.

Dear Lord, as soon as I hit the full stop on that the dog farted. Mind you, he's pretty clever.

Re: The timeless appeal of 7-speed gearing

Olive will be in need of TLC in about a month (after the winter hosteling rough stuff weekend ) so I have bought a 13-28 7 speed to try, on my 10 sp hub. I don't have the 4.5 mm spacer but have a Shimano and a campag cassette spacer, that come out at just over 5mm together, so I'm sure a little bit ...

Re: Still trying to understand comfort.

If you want to be truly comfortable, then maybe you should try (hire?) a recumbent, alternatively, if your limbs are shorter than average, then might I suggest a custom frame, made to measure. With regard to your painful sitbones, 4 miles a day is not a lot to give your bones a chance. I'm trying ou...

Re: Bike washing

do you own a car? if so take a bucket of water and a sponge/brush down stairs, and put it in the car, lock car, return to fetch bike, wash bike, and wipe dry, take bike back upstairs, after depositing the empty bucket back in the car, to bring up 'next time' ie, use the car as a workshop base.

Re: A reduced mileage!

Don't know so much about reduced mileage, just topped 857km this Dec, highest monthly total for 3 years, since I bought 'Olive', now just 250km short of 15,000 km in 3 years. I'll be 57 in January.

Re: Your Favourite Saddle

Spa Nidd, for me, 5-6 years now, many thousands on miles, honey (well was honey) coloured, and its my only saddle as I only ride one bike for everything. BUT I have been lusting after a GB Aspin in ' natural', why ....well I don't know really, suppose because I can, and I can afford it, and I belie...

Re: knee pain and clicking

Well, bit of an update on this, been off the bike 7 days now, due to work, weather, and being in Prague for 4 1/2 days. Whilst in Prague we did a bit of walking, when I say say a bit, I mean a lot, and when I say a lot, I mean.....according to my lady's Fitbit....80km... 50 miles!! . (Thursday 4 mil...

Re: Insoles to raise ankle height

Haha! I have this problem with certain footwear , not of cycling issue, but being leather, a generous manipulation of ankle area of boot with brooks proofide , soften said leather and no more problems. I don't know the answer to this ,but its worth a try for sure, cheap gel heel pads can be bought qu...

Re: LBS or Black Friday online discounts?

Always online, Black Friday or not, and always the best deal. I do all my own maintenance, build bikes up from frames etc, so source my parts online for 'best price' I stopped using my LBS some 15 years ago, as even then they never had what I wanted, looked bemused when said item was for a bike that...

Re: Have you lost weight since you started cycling?

I haven't lost weight, though since I started age 4 ... yes I know other people have made that point. Cycling did, however, cure me of a horrible bout of depression in my late 50s. Better than any prescription, though there were a lot of miles involved. I don't know whether I have suffered from dep...
