Re: Argos Vs Atlantic Boulevard for paint.

its funny really , but the paint finish is a subjective thing. A little tale A few years back, I realised my dream and bought a lwb Landrover Defender ex -military reserve, 15 years old, with less than 2,500 miles on it. I had it sprayed 'camel trophy' sandglow yellow. I polished it every week, I wa...

Re: rando bike vs touring bike

if your interested in 'RANDO' bikes this makes good reading, you'll have to follow the story thro, but essentially its all all about how good rando bikes with 650b wheels are.

Re: Track pumps

track pump V Zefal hpx.....hmm. I have both, and use both. Cheap and cheerful Decathlon one. If I'm on a ride and I get a flat, yes I use the HPX, but more often than not , a tyre deflates over night, due to a....visitation, and then its so much easier to swap tube and pump up with the track pump, e...

Re: Tektro brake pads

just replace the pad and holder complete, with any cantilever v brake one, I've used wilkinsons canti pads for years. Regardless of their stopping power or rim caring/wearing qualities Wilko Cantilever Brake Pads are not going to fit Tektro CR720s. you are correct, but however, these of course will...

Re: co2 in tyres?

I would be a big fan of Helium. Great on the hills! As a monatomic gas it would leak even faster.... Well this takes me back a ways. About 20 years ago, i used to go mountain biking in the not so local woods, in winter, at night. No mean feat when you consider, rigid bikes and candle lamps! ...

Re: 8 speed bar ends running 9 speed?

i've got 7 speed shimano bar cons, running 10 speed campag in friction mode, although to be fair its only 9 speed ,coz I can't get the last little one to work, If I CBA I would just dremel away the 'stops' on the lever, as there isn't quite enough pull. Worked fine with 9 speed campag tho, even pass...

Re: Knocking noises from crank area.

I've had this, and it only occurred 'out of the saddle' at the end of the down stoke, both sides. Swapped the BB but it wasn't that :x , eventually tracked it down to 2 spokes in the front wheel, clicking, where they x over, so a loosen off and a rub with some emery cloth, the a re tighten sorted it...

very unusual, used wilko's finest for over 10 years. Their brake blocks are good value too.

Re: custom made frame vs off the peg

I recently read a book called 'its all about the bike'. Basically a chap wants to source all the bits for his dream bike, then pick them up personally, ie USA, Italy, UK. He plumped for a Rourke frame in 853 'custom' When he went to Rourkes, he took his old bike and then went for a ride with Brian R...

Re: custom made frame vs off the peg

I was going thro the same process 6 months back, thought about the Audax models, but plumped for the touring stylee, as it will take slightly larger tyres and has more braze ons. Anyway I went down the Bob Jackson OTP frame, in World Tour guise, as opposed to the end to end. I have it set up in a sl...
