Re: Saddle "Discomfort" - Plough On or Change

some days ARE different. one day I can do 100k with no discomfort at all, then another day 30k will seem like i'm sitting on a rock. (Spa Nidd , brooks B17 clone) on the latter days I find that when I come to an incline, 'out of the saddle' for maybe 10 pedal strokes, and when I return to my seat,,,...

Re: Fitting SKS mudguards - should it be this hard?

Mudguards were £21 delivered from Ribble cycles, cheapest by far. They are not white but are called Latte, and that is the colour they are. Sks longboards, 45mm, don't like the black plastic front edging, so removed it, also chopped about 25mm of lower front. Not that keen on the flap either, althou...

Re: campag cassette question

PS What's the sticky tape on the Campag hub for? Grease port? I have considered one on mine, but it's so simple to strip the hub - five minutes? - it hardly seemed worth the while. Yep! I drilled a small hole, and occasionally plop a few drops of EP90 axle oil in there, then tape it up again....

Re: campag cassette question

http://i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac41/yostumpy/Picture510_zpsd2293f44.jpg 10 into 9 does go. the sprockets fitted ok, AND surprisingly the chainset came with a lockring, which fit the 9 speed freehub body without problem. Ran it with a 9 speed chain, and friction ONLY levers. The OCCASIONAL tick ...

Re: campag cassette question

why will the lock ring not work? it screws into the free hub , so no matter what the cassette, the lock ring should fit, its the 9 sp 26mm one. The chain is new, as is the 9 speed 13-28 block . but I found some 10 sp veloce 13-26 cassettes on line for £16.56.

campag cassette question

Can i fit a 10 speed veloce cassette, on to a 9 speed veloce freehub. If so what do I get? will it be 10-1= 9 speed using the 9 speed spacers, or will i get 10 speed with the 10 sp spacers. I'm using friction barcons so not worried about indexing at all, and will the 9 sp chain work ok. Thinking 13-26

Re: Mountain touring-Past times

What tyre pressures, what gearing choice? its not a re-enactment is it? Only there are these 4 guys, (maybe 5 with the photographer?) atop a mountain. If you look where they are standing, it appears to be a road, a well used space devoid of vegetation, as if it was a viewing area well used b...

Re: Lightweight headset spanners

A bit (very) late I know, but N=-1+1=N has just arrived and has a stronglight a9 alloy headset fitted, so I presume 32mm? Don't suppose there are any left are there, if not any more in the pipeline.?

Re: Ghost shifting under load

I.ve had this before, one answer was to make sure the cable is in the right 'slot' where it clamps up tight on the rear mech, and the other, is where do you start to set up your indexing, I always used to start at the biggest rear sprocket, but was told you should 'fine tune' with the chain on the m...

Re: Nitto noodle bars and stem lenght

This is a bit of a can of worms. Q. why are you fitting Noodles? if you find the compacts too compact, then the noodles will be fine. I assume you want the xtra length of the 'ramps' giving you a longer section twixt 90deg bend and the hoods, that the noodles give. If you position your 'hoods' to be...

Re: Bob Jackson vs Surly LHT vs Thorn Club Tour vs?

I 've ordered a WT in 631, pick it up in DEC. I like the idea of a quill stem, as you have a much greater range of height adjustment, especially id you use the Nitto technomic de lux, without the unsightly 45 deg stem, or armful of steerer on an obviously too small frame, and it will take 32mm tyes ...

Re: what to do?

how old is your current frame? are there any other signs of significant wear and tear? Frame is about 10 years old. done ooo,ooo miles so can't complain. its always felt quite 'dead ' tho'. hadn't appreciated that the bottom shell was the starting point of the frame, makes sense really, it would es...
