On the front page of the new site is a link to the old site and the LEJOG info is still there as a downloadable PDF.

Rack for the job rather than getting the drill out.

Pennine Cycleway (North)
I'm looking for a copy of the Sustrans map for Pennine Cycleway (North). It would appear to be out of print as Sustrans and Amazon do not have any copies available. Anyone able to direct me to a supply of this map - or want to sell thier old copy?

C2C and W2W
Thinking of doing C2C and returning on W2W - anyone know what the road is like between Barrow and Whitehaven to link the two? Ravensglass to Whitehaven looks ok but Ravensglass to Barrow looks like it could be tricky. Local knowledge on routes to avoid A roads in this area appreciated.

Re: Western Islanders' disappointing "advice" for cyclists
Not just in the Western Isles, the same (similar) words appear on a North Wales Rural Cycle Routes leaflet on Anglesey.
"When riding narrow lanes always ride in single file and listen out for approaching traffic. If necessary, dismount immediately to allow vehicles to pass. Failure to do so is likely to cause frustration and may lead to an accident, for which you may be held responsible."
Despite the request to get off the road I found Anglesey is a great place to ride.

MickF's tip on using pencils is very handy - I'll give that a go next time I need to shift a cassette.
Those plastic cups are scary - I think I even used copper grease on mine - I hope it doesn't rot plastic ...
Mmmm Not sure I remember this correctly gentlegreen but I think the Shimano spec was don't grease the plastic ones. I think it leads to overtightening the thing and strips the silly plastic thread. Most of mine are now the metal ones.
Apologies if this is 'off topic'.

Re: Gear change very stiff on Mezzo D9
SRAM Trigger shifter and a Shimano 9 speed mech on mine. Not had any issues, feels same as any other gear change. Check for any kinks in the cable where the bike has been folded these could be causing stiffness in shifter. Other than that, back to the bike shop because they are not all stiff to use.
EDit: The random changes are down to the indexing - again this shouldn't happen. Mine is folded and unfolder twice a day to travel on the train and the indexing is fine with no random changes.
Great little bike btw.

Re: ....where I can buy
Difficult size for some reason. Personally I'm not keen on adjustable stems but I wonder if this http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=39260 moves from 0 degees to 45 degrees and therefore could be used in a 'flat' position. Just a thought.

Under 9kg and £400, lovely looking bike. If I had any use for one I'd have one in a shot, I envy your mate with a nice flat commute for such a machine.
+1 have one of these, great bike, wheel can be flipped for fixed or single, can be fitted with 'Crud Roadracer' mudguards. My routes involve country roads with lots of cow muck. Trust me, your mate really DOES need guards.

Re: Sprucing up my old Dawes Super-Galaxy
Ribblehead - I read this article some time ago and bookmarked the page http://www.ironweedbp.com/ironweed-bags-blog.html If you scroll half way down the page (If you can get past those pictures of some beautiful bikes) you'll see an article on how to make 6 speed indexed bar end shifters. It might interest you if you've some good DIY skills.
If you are going to tour and use a bar bag you will find the combined brake / shifter cables are in the way of the bar bag - especially if you have the traditionally narrow drop bars.

I do not know if this works all makes but on Cateye lights if you hold the switch down for about five second the light will go out on what ever the mode, it only took me only 2 years to work this out.
That's brilliant! This works on my Cateye TL-LD1100 which has way to many modes. Thanks
