I've always understood that meat meant mainly muscle tissue; the brain is made primarily of fat and water: wouldn't some higher intelligence be describing us as fat heads?

I think some misunderstanding has arisen all round here, which is very sad. :(

Perhaps it's in the nature of message boards that communication is brief and thus might be misinterpreted. In NLP there is a saying, "Communication is only as good as the response it gets."

PS It's Mrs T that's mad not us; we like flowers and helping old people to cross the road.

Having read your notice on not smoking, I think there could be an element of contradiction here!

We have more affluence than ever before, we also have more restrictive laws than ever plus more people in prison than any other country in Europe. We have more surveillance cameras than anywhere else on the planet and the police have more powers than before.

It's all reactive stuff, lock 'em up, flog 'em, hang 'em! None of it works, it only makes things worse. We need to prevent children and young people feel part of the community, educate them and their parents to know that they are valued and that antisocial behaviour is everyone's responsibility. They need to understand that binge drinking is stupid and only done by morons - many of the adults they see - and shortens life considerably. They need to understand that rights are earned and come with responsibilities, and that cooperation achieves more than confrontation.

It's about education and is long term. It should also be about rehabilitating those who do end up in prison. It costs £30,000 pa, to keep someone locked up, surely rehab and finding them a job would cost less and produce more for the country as well as encouraging them to believe in themselves again and the system. I'm not being a soft hearted do gooder, I'm looking at the statistics and the costs. Build more prisons, you end up with more prisoners - just like new roads bring more cars.

Only those who need to be locked up for the safety of others should be in prison, such as violent crime, causing death by dangerous driving and sex offenders.

Rant over!

A hour riding at about 15mph burns up about 750 calories, at 20mph it's 850. Most of this will come from glycogen stored around the liver. It is replaced as soon as you eat. However, after reasonably vigorous exercise, your body continues at a higher metabolism and thus burns fat for another half an hour or so.

Obviously healthy eating is also necessary to lose weight, if you skip meals, especially breakfast your body thinks it's being starved and stores the next meal as fat. So you need to eat to burn calories.

A combination of healthy eating and regular exercise will enable most people to lose some weight. Remember to drink plenty of water too, this helps reduce appetite and remove waste.
