Hello All,
Just a tip for Adult members turning 65. Make sure that your Direct Debit is changed from the Adult rate to the Senior rate.
I failed to do this and, for the last 7 years the Club has deducted the full subscription rate. This only came to light when I phoned in an order for the Club's LEJOG book and was asked my Date of Birth.
When I requested a return of the wrongly charged amount I was offered Just £30 refund. I appealed against this on the grounds that it was not my mistake but their's and, having been a member for over 25 years, I had not paid any attention to the Membership details page in the magazine, where the rates are shown.
The Club disagreed with this and refused to increase their offer.
Consequently I have very reluctantly resigned from the Club.
Happy cycling to you all,
John Stevens.

Except, of course, that the claim that members have benefited is codswallop. Members do not benefit from the Trust. That's the point.

If members have not benefited before it's probably because the Trust was a separate entity. The 2006 Act accorded Charitable Status to "Groups that advance amateur sport", this now includes the CTC. which provides the framework under which Members can enjoy the benefits of cycle-sport.

Re: Query
Thanks for the advice.
So what's the objections to the merger? It seems that the 2009 Charities Act has expanded the concept of Charity to include any organisation which provides a beneficial amenity to the community. This could include all Cycle Clubs, I think I'll vote in favour.

Query
This is my first pitch at the debate so I might be missing something. Does the CTC mean to put itself into the same bracket as Age Concern or Oxfam? My take on Charities is that they exist for the benefit of disadvantaged groups such as the sick or needy, not fit outdoor types like us or the Ramblers Association.
I myself Have the good fortune to be a fit, active, cyclist, certainly not a deserving cause for charitably minded people. If they are going to donate money I would sooner see it go to the RNLI or Cancer Research
