Re: csts for ten day cycling /camping tour of normandy

I've just ridden from Nice - Mont St Michel - Cherbourg - Paris in July/August. I spent less than €5 per day for 54 days, preferring to camp wild in my Terra Nova Jupiter bivvy bag. That is quite impressive, 5 euro can buy you just 1 jar of coffee [100g]. Or it could buy you one container 800 ml of...

Re: Tried my recent e-bay purchase today

Think you'll need a set of mirrors with something that long, also it may be difficult getting along cycle paths with bollards.
There is one in Fareham i always have to get off the bike just to get round, any time i go out with my cycle trailer.

Re: Defending yourself

In over 30 years of cycling I have never been involved in a confrontation with anyone on my bike! I am at a loss to understand why they must happen. I have certainly been annoyed by a few motorised idiots and not doubt I have over the years irritated the odd motorist. Sometimes one or other or both...

Re: Defending yourself

To the original poster, you have raised a good subject.Cycling can be dangerous for some of us purely on a social level, meeting troublemakers And people up to no good on the road, I've been through gun and knife threats already, but i wasn't cycling at that time, so i've survived that so far in my ...

Re: Very bad Weather coming to Scotland

If its going to be that bad, why are you just warning end-to-enders?! There are plenty of other cyclists in Scotland you know. Anyway, its only strong wind and rain, nothing new in that up here north of the border. Bad weather in Scotland is all year round as you say,i spent enough years living the...

Had an incident in Portchester with Chav hanging out of window screaming at cyclists... Caught upo with them at the CAms HAll traffic queue. Pulled alongside...

Re: csts for ten day cycling /camping tour of normandy

Well i think you are simply looking for an argument, the amount of nonsense you have just came out with there. You are denying the reality of the pound only being worth 1.10 euro and living in fantasy land, or have so much money to spend you don't really know what cheap is. I asked how long you actu...

Re: csts for ten day cycling /camping tour of normandy

So your going to base your whole debate on France being more expensive for cycletouring on a link to an online shopping catalogue. As I said earlier in this thread the OP is not interested in the price of Electronics, Property nor online coffee, I have formed the opinion that like me he is an ordin...

Re: csts for ten day cycling /camping tour of normandy

France is no longer a cheap place for British people to go to, it's quite a bit dearer than the Uk i feel. Electronic goods are sky high in price.Which makes me wonder just how high wages are in France. Mind you, their property prices are more sensible than the outlandish Uk ones. I would have to d...

Re: csts for ten day cycling /camping tour of normandy

I got by on 8 euros per day cycling from Dieppe onwards a few weeks ago.I was away 8 to 10 days. Didn't travel quite as far as you though, only did a 300 mile circle, including Amiens. It's not hard to find wild camping spots throughout that whole area. Also done st.michel and Bayeux at another time....

Re: I am a little worried...

* Had to play baby sitter on my Saturday mornings and oh mortification..... was spotted by a couple of lads from my school while we on a road test, who thought it was hysterically funny to see me there! It was only the one lad in the school at the time that I really really fancied (other than David...

Re: I am a little worried...

It's not often i see young people on the roads, they are on the pavements mostly, on bmx bikes and the like. They use all pavements as cycle lanes, rather than those marked as shared pavements. It's a rarity to see them use lights at night, i have to be on my guard for people coming from nowhere on ...

Re: The Impossible Dream

Thanks for the good wishes guys. I've completed 5 days and covered just short of 400 miles. Spirits and winds are still high but soldiering-on. Dodgy connections to wi-fi are keeping my reports short. Will give full report at the end. That's impressive, averaging 80 miles a day, and with winds. I wa...
