Re: Suitable pump for AirZound horn?
I had an Air Zound years ago and had much the same problem. I never really got round to sorting it as I got fed up with it running out of air after only one two blasts. Really needed a bigger air reservoir. A pump that might do job is the Lezyne mini floor pump with the screw on flip chuck. What would be good is a small battery powered compressor to run it off but I don't think anyone makes one.

Re: Pedelec conversion
I have a Sunstar SO3 which I fitted to a recumbent - it's a crank replacement system so you can keep your current gearing set up - no need to replace or rebuild wheels. They also do this new kit:-

Think I might try going to the ticket office at Southampton Central and seeing what an actual human being can do to help rather than relying on the National Railway website. If I plan the journey going from Romsey - which is only six miles away - it's change at Swindon and £30.40 return. If I try Southampton to Bath - lo and behold there is a replacement bus service which the website won't put you on if you try and continue your journey through Bath.

Southampton to Bristol
I was thinking of going to Bespoked on the 8th of April, getting the direct train from Southampton Central to Bristol Temple Meads - the show itself being right next door. But modernisation work at Bath means a 90 minute direct journey becomes at least 2 and half and one or two changes of train. It also means the fare is more expensive £10.50 for a single ticket going direct compared to £56.50 for a return by the less convenient and longer route. National Express service is even more rubbish. Thinking about maybe riding there instead, I have been wanting to travel the two tunnels route in Bath. Any thoughts and suggestions on here? I have done 100+ miles a day before now just not for a while, more concerned with ease of sticking to the route and what hills might be best avoided if possible.

Re: Mountain bike pedals with "pins"
I have these pedals on my cargo bike. Great for shoes not slipping off in the wet, good size of platform for my size 10s and now worries about not being unable to unclip if you have to stop quickly in traffic.

Sadly the majority of people are prepared to pay a lot of money to have the car sitting on the drive even if they don't use it.
Driveway? Most people leave their car parked on the street in cities thereby causing a huge amount of congestion and dangerous driving/riding conditions by narrowing roads down to long stretches of single lane traffic. Worse are the ones who park with two wheels on the pavement "So that traffic has more room to get by" Wrong as it just encourages two vehicles to try squeezing into the extra space which isn't enough and blocks up the pavements for people like wheel chair users and parents with baby buggys.

Re: find me a front light please.
I like Exposure lights - they do some seriously bright models and have very good battery life. They are quite pricey but the ones I have have lasted me very well and still going strong. The only point they don't match what you are looking for is that the battery pack is not removable. Given how long the lights can run for this si not likely to be a problem most of the time, if it is, they also sell piggy back battery packs that you can plug into the charging port if needed.

Re: If you had a £1000
The bikes I most want all cost more than a £1000. At the moment I would most like a second longjohn cargo bike. A Larry vs Harry Bullit or Winther Walleroo flat bed were top of that list but just the moment it's a new Rodford box bike that I am looking at.

Re: Rain pants or poncho?
I converted to ponchos last year and find them great for the convenience that they will go on over everything else, keep you dry without getting so hot. On days when it has been very wet I will use waterproof trousers and overshoes or wellies as well.

Re: Anyone Ditched their Car Completely for a Bike?
I went car free some years ago - although I would occasionally hire a car if really needed one. As other posts have said, this was fine when I didn't have any family commitments. I ended up inheriting a car after my father passed away, went back to uni to do masters degree, got married and then became a father. My wife passed her test and got a car and for while we had two cars. I was then wrongly convicted of a hit and run - it was claimed I had hit someones car when no collision had taken place - and although I 'only' got a fine and a few points it was enough to bring into sharp relief how much I didn't actually like driving and car ownership. So I got back to cycling again and got rid of both cars and got my wife a newer car. Then we role swapped and my wife went to work while I stayed home to look after house and daughter and so I got Bakfiets long john cargo bike. Brilliant! wish I'd had one years ago. If you really want to go car free, then a long john is going to be your best friend. These days there are quite few to choose from - budget models on e-bay up to high end electric assist models such as the Larry vs Harry Bullitt.

Re: Hostile reaction to cheery greeting - Is it just me?
On occasions when I have used my bicycle bell to warn someone of my presence it is completely ignored - only after repeated ringing and calling out is my existence acknowledged.

Re: Cyclist(?) in car assaults cyclist
I am not sure how deliberately driving a ton of motor vehicle at someone could be considered an act not intended to cause harm. I am sure that if I was to run at someone while waving a cricket bat most people would think that my intent would be to hit them.

Wouldn't surprise if Trump make cycling and walking illegal in the US before long and decrees that everyone must travel in gas guzzlers.

1. Bike theft victims invariably do not know some or all of the make, model or frame number.
2. Bikes reported stolen are logged on the county police site. these sites are not interlinked.
3. Bikes reported found are not recorded by the police. they are retained where appropriate by the council. the council does not pass the details onto the police. If you report a theft of a specific machine and it is found and taken into the possession of the council the police will be none the wiser.

I met a bloke on a ride who insisted on showing me the bike he'd just bought from a Cash Converter shop. It was a brand new Thorn with a Rohloff Hubgear. Easily over a grand. He'd bought it for £100. Who would sell a bike like that to a pawnbroker for less than the price they sold it for. Obviously it was stolen.
If it was brand new Thorn as you say, then it might well have been worth passing the details on to the Police and to Thorn to trace the original owner and get it back to them.

Reminded of this old Irish chestnut:-
Man driving along deserted country road in Ireland trying to find a little village, sees a chap walking along the road. He stops and asks "Excuse me, what is the best way to Ballygowan?" The man stops and thinks for a moment before replying "Well, I wouldn't start from here"
