Re: Can you help me diagnose a knocking sound as I peddle

We had the same problem on our tandem and I went through all the same checks, pedals, chainrings, crank bolts, bottom bracket, stiff chain links etc etc, but still a click every pedal revolution. Do you know what it was in the end...the brake cable loop was sticking out slightly and the stokers heel just clipped it every revolution!! I adjusted it and now we cycle in perfect silence!! Moral of the story is just to check unlikely sources for the noise.

Re: front basket with fork crown support?

https://southerndistributors.co.uk/prod ... 133-black/

This hooks over the bars, rests on the head tube and hooks into the basket (wald type metal basket, not wicker)

Mine is zip- tied to an old front rack, with front light on the rack separately

Re: front basket with fork crown support?

Have a look at Wald 137 or 139, they have a lot of different fittings to suit. I have the smaller 137 and can vouch for it’s quality. I use a topeak cargo net over to stop things jumping out!

Re: Circe Helios

That looks great fun. I bet you all had a great time. I remember touring with ours at that age but we didn’t have Circe Helios bikes then, they’re so versatile aren’t they!

Re: Circe Helios

Thanks Rob. I actually managed to get a used Helios and whilst it was a bit rough around the edges, I’ve spent the last 2 days stripping, servicing and refurbishing it. Not quite finished yet, but not too much more to do. The black sora cranks were scuffed and tatty, so I carefully rubbed down the affected areas and blew in some black spray paint..once T-cutted they’ve come out really well - dead chuffed with that!

Tubeless sealant in tubed tyre

Has anyone used tubeless sealant instead of, for example ‘slime’ as a means of sealing puncture holes in a tubed tyre?

Just wondering as I have some excess caffelatex tubeless sealant kicking around. It’s been fantastic at sealing my tubeless conti mountain king tyres (which notoriously bleed through the side walls) so I’m thinking I could try it on some tubed tyres aswell, by injecting it through the inner-tube valves.

Re: Circe Helios

More room behind the stoker than the Helios? How do they get on with the KHS? What is the quality and stiffness like (given the hinge in the middle)?

“ I'm quite pleased with that setup, although would prefer a slightly wider gear range, ”..

Lower gears or higher, or both!

Re: Circe Helios

Rick, is your Helios an alfine version? I quite fancy the thought of a hub gear one..changing gear from a stationary position can be really handy, plus low maintenance/chain wear(?). I’ve read that the 8 speed version is simpler and more reliable, but don’t know whether that’s true.

Re: Circe Helios

Thanks for the comments. We already have a parallelogram suspension post which I think is an essential piece of stoker’s kit, so whilst a dropper post is a good idea, it’s not one we would like to pursue.

We used to get on exactly as landusud describes, but Mrs H has a neurological condition now, which means that I have to help her on and clip her in, at the same time supporting the bike and then gingerly hopping on, whilst ensuring we don’t end up in a heap! We manage though!
