Re: Boring fact

As a very junior telegraph boy over 60 years ago I had to sign the official secrets act and as far as I know am still bound by it so I cannot tell you how many lead seals were used in my office every day.

Re: Does phone case/ phone type define you?

I must hide in shame. I have an iphone7plus with a flip leather case and screen protector. In defence I inherited the phone which is a big heavy brute but I would have an Apple phone anyway as all my other devices are Apple and they all sync. I tried other systems but could not get any of them to wo...

Re: A noob asks... what is the point of toe clips for a commute?

As (XAP)Bob I use clip in pedals on my trike to avoid the catastrophe of feet slipping off but otherwise I have gone to flats for all bikes. I started many years ago with toe clips and eventually changed to clipless for a couple of years but never really got on with them so back to flats.

Re: Ever been stopped at security at the ferry port?

Not quite the same but my car contents have been checked before getting on CalMac and Northlink ferries. CalMac were apparently doing random checks looking for empty fuel containers. Empty because I was heading off island. A great fire risk apparently but seems a bit daft as ferry full of cars with ...

Re: Cycling related male personal problem

When washing do not use soap which removes the natural oils according to a gp and keep the area dry. May not work but worth a try.

Re: Continuing cycling in older age - what is the secret if any?

Keep the pedals turning. I cannot easily get my leg over the saddle any more so I have a Brompton and Bike Friday with step through. Not so fast but why hurry. With my GTech electric I either lean against something or lay the bike flat and step over before picking it up. I am now using a recumbent t...

Re: Extreme horse hazard

Once the farm I worked on had a load of fence posts stolen. Result all the yeld cattle and young beasts escaped without our knowing. Got a call from the police that they were rampaging in the gardens in the village of Kilmalcolm several miles away. Farmer got behind them on a tractor on the way home...

Re: Dogs off lead on shared use path

Today on Sustrans 78. Medium size dog running loose with no lead and male owner on mobile phone. Dog makes a run at my ankle, possibly not with evil intent but I don’t know and owner ignores. Evade the brute which then runs in front of me and has a go at my front tyre. Cue loud swearing and declarat...

Re: NC 500 altnaharra food

Lookrider’s comments about how much good they do and how the local inhabitants should be grateful they inflict themselves on the residents is all so familiar to me. I live in an area overrun with tourists as is the NC500 and those who do not get instant gratification start exactly the same rant abou...

I still have my Weston meter but have not used it for years. Would sell it if I could be bothered. I have got lazy and let the camera do all the work.

Re: Cutting the grass

I have a fair bit of grass. The bit behind the house tends to get fairly long before I cut it. Every time it gets done I collect ticks carried in by the red deer that infest the area. The cuttings mostly get spread around the vegetables as a mulch which helps to keep the weeds down and certainly doe...

Re: slowing down on the bike

Chronological age has little to do with how you cycle really. You may cycle more after retirement and thus be fitter than before. Luck has more to do with what you do. We cannot necessarily control the functions of our body machinery and some wear out faster than others so just try to keep healthy t...
