Re: Bikeroutetoaster problem
If you open the Javascript error console (Ctrl+Shift+J), clear it, and log in again, do you get any errors come up in it? Remains clear but still couldn't log in Edit - just opened BRT in IE - worked fine and I was able to log in and see my saved course. In future I'll do it that way. Obviously the...

Re: Do derailleur springs lose tension?
Sorry for being flippant .... but the title of this thread put me in mind of the song - "Do your dérailleur springs lose their tension on the bed post overnight"

Re: Where have all the Thick Kids Gone?
I have three children and after this discussion I'm not sure how to categorise them. All have graduated and two are accountants working for two of the big four. The third is currently travelling. Reading what others have posted I think it's safe to say we were beguiled when the school told us our el...

Re: Where have all the Thick Kids Gone?
If you would like a world where nobody ever said no to a child, or never explained to them why their behaviour was unacceptable, you have a very idealistic idea of what is expected of teachers in relation to what is practically achievable. I don't think anyone wants that world. The public's expecta...

Re: Where have all the Thick Kids Gone?
Very strict does not automatically a good teacher make. Knock them into shape - not the sort of language which fills me with confidence But very strict doesn't automatically make a bad teacher either so I don't see that, based on this limited piece of information, any judgement can be made on F's a...

Re: Where have all the Thick Kids Gone?
I had many horrible little oiks Frustration and anger at the pointlessness of it all led me not to tarry long as a teacher. If that was how you regarded your pupils it's no bad thing you left the job. So what do you want, teachers who don't see a problem with lazy students? Teachers who are so with...

Re: Where have all the Thick Kids Gone?
I'm concerned at some of the terminology used in this thread and think that some of the posters need to reflect on how they are describing young people. My wife was a SENCO in a large inner city secondary school and she specialised in dealing with the section of school society some (including some o...

Proportional representation - isn't that the sort of thing that means the ballot paper is the length of a roll of wallpaper, nobody wins and we have constant elections and no viable, accountable government - like Belgium.... sounds fantastic. Like tofu and lentils and body piercings!!!

Re: Best Sustrans (NCR) routes??
The OP wanted GOOD routes but everyone started moaning!..... What is the "OP"? OP - original poster! IM(H)O - in my (humble) opinion IIRC - if I recall correctly PPEASO - previous poster expressed a stupid opinion* * I just made this up, it's not a recognised abbreviation but don't you th...

Re: Old age, sun and balding bonce
A pal of mine always wears a buff under his helmet and he wears it in the style that has a flap at the rear - foreign legion style - which protects the back of the neck. He says that sweat wicks away to the neck covering bit and the dampness helps to cool. It keeps the sun off his scalp in the summe...

Re: selling a cycletowork bike ??
Will you lose if you sell it? Getting an £1100 bike for what will you have paid - £700. Second hand value will be more than the cost to you will it not? Just sell it and buy something you will be happier with

There but for the grace of God go .... I wonder how many of us! Not excusing him of course, just a little empathy .... On second thoughts, after the thread concerning the jockey I withdraw my empathy for fear of having an burning effigy of a mobile phone planted on my lawn

Good for you - the rest of us didn't say we weren't rich - simply that we weren't rich enough to be on the list!
