Really? I'm sick of these fatties wanting a fiver for their epic 10 mile charity rides. I would happily donate 5 pounds worth of my time to shout Fat Camp slogans at them instead. tough love!

They want to be seen to be trying to get fit, not actually getting fit. (Except that one on here that halved his weight and did a 200 mile ride - i like to imagine that was all in one day)

I take offence at your comments nutsey. I happen to be one of those fatties trying to get fit. I do want to get fit and I have so far lost 1.5stone. Not everyone want so be seen trying to get fit without actually getting fit.

Re: Coast To Coast & The Best LBS?

My inlaws live over in Stanhope and has the alternative rout up Crawleyside on the CTC, I have used North Pennine Cycles in the past and the service has always been great, and the cost is very reasonable for the work he has done on my bikes over the last couple of years.

And the stories people are prepared to make up to get their grubby mitts on any old tat have to be read to be believed. Enough to turn you into a Thatcherite.

So you agree these altruistic policies are naive?

Well the sorts of folk that nab stuff off freecycle to flog at carboot sales tend to live in social housing and drive vans. Not the sort of ilk that I would find at the Young Britons Foundation

I got a great bike off Freecycle - I was looking to get back to cycling and get fit again and got a great bike at no cost to me apart from the couple of miles I had to drive to collect. I still use the bike now.

Re: help with cheap tourer

I got an old MTB from freecycle and did a cinversion to a touring bike. Total cost of conversion was about £90.00 including rack, bars, bar end shifters, tyres. I have not changed the drive train as yet but know I will probably need to change in the not too distant future. I expect the freewheel and chain to cost no more than £40

Re: The total cost of touring kit.

Heres a bike I have just converted to make a tourer - This summer will see my first tour in over 30years (Just back to cycling after many years away). This was a cheapish MTB which had been lying at work that was about to be thrown out (It had been stored in a shed for the last six month.
Total Conversion price including cables etc no more than £90
I am sure this will do the job as I am looking to ride no more than 30miles per day
