Re: ** The General Election Thread **

It’s looking like the exit poll was correct. Big Labour majorities being lost, Blyth, Dario, Redcar, Workington all going to the Tories.

London is holding on but it looks like the Red Wall is crumbling and the Bluewalkers are on the March. Winter is coming.........

Re: Introduction of Scottish Tourist Tax

If tourism tax money is directed at facilities for tourists it could be a good thing. How do we pay for the creation and maintenance of footpaths and trails across the countryside, the installation of picnic benches and so on? Some of these are/were funded by the EU via the agri-environment schemes...

Re: Anyone else getting close to 1 million miles?

I have a club mate who has done 550,000 miles. He’s been a club cyclist since he was 15 and is now 72 and averages around 10,000 miles a year, though he is slowing down over time and doing less miles now. I’m actually about 600 miles ahead of him this year, he’ll only do about 5700.

Re: CYCLISTS ARE OWN BIGGEST DANGER

Sure, and by the same token, cycle infrastructure, which appears and is instantly a death trap, since nobody considered that roads are self cleaning and cycle paths aren't. Calling roads "self cleaning" ignores the great efforts of council workers to clean up flytips and debris. Some coun...

Re: New to commuting by bike

I commuted by bike for the whole of my working life from 1977 to 2019 - happily retired now ( but still cycling for leisure). Not everyday but well over 80% of my journeys to and from work were done by bike. My shortest commute was just over 3 miles each way and my longest 21 miles each way. It’s an...

Re: Garmin Edge 20/25 wrist strap?

You may be able to make a wrist strap mount out of one of the Garmin mounts that hold the unit on the bars via a rubber band.

Re: Large Bright Jacket

Do you need it to be waterproof? If not, then I wear a Polaris RBS (Really Bright Stuff) jacket. Fits me fine and I’m a 48 chest and 6ft 2 in. Plenty big enough and they are currently on offer. Mainly yellow with an orange stripe and silver reflectives. Mine is XXL but you would probably be ok with....

Re: Tubeless tyres .... What I've learned so far

I don’t use tubeless but both my son and son in law do. I recently had to pick my son in law up as he had a puncture that wouldn’t seal. He seems fairly pleased with them, other than that. My son is going back to tubes, he’s not impressed with them at all. On a recent ride with him, the tyre manage ...

Re: This is Audax

Atmosphere can vary according to the event and the number of riders. A popular event and you’ll see riders all the way round the course, riding at varying speeds. A small event and you might not see anyone else all day. Both will have people to chat to at the finish. There is a sense of camaraderie ...

Re: This is Audax

I never feel under a time-constraint when riding an audax. The time limits really are generous and even with 2 cafe stops I’m usually an hour or more inside the time limit. I dont rush around either. Probably averaging 12-14mph for the actual riding bits, slower if it’s a hilly one. In one audax, I ...

Re: Tenerife cycling and bike hire.

LifeCycles in Corralejo, Fuerteventura. He may have put his prices up a bit, as I told him he wasn't charging enough. Everyone else on the island was charging 130-140 Euros for a week's hire.
