Re: Dealing with mosquitos

OP, I am the same, a magnet for them, I've been with in groups and had a cloud of them above my head whilst everybody else is left alone. If you also react as badly as me then you'll might know that antihistamines make zero difference, at least ones that I can buy over the counter. If I get bitten o...

The problem, Mark, is how they drive them................

How's that then John?

Re: Where can you buy nice jerseys?

I like garish designs and buy vintage ones from Ebay very cheaply, all have been as new and I've never paid more than a tenner, often far less. This is my current favourite and cost £7.50.

Re: Cycling Santander to Granada via the Portuguese Coast.

Are you fixed on following the coast? Gijon on to Galicia and around is hard work and Cadiz up to Malaga is horrible.

It's a motorway, a relatively quiet one, in places 4 lanes wide.

Re: Bike transport by air question...

I once bought a Lakeland bag with wheels, compartments and straps, it was excellent, but I only used it once before deciding that picking up cardboard boxes was less restrictive. I think a cardboard bike box offers more protection than my £100+ whizz bang bike bag did tbh After all, they are designe...

Re: Bike transport by air question...

I fly out regularly, I don't own any special transportation box. I get a box from my LBS to fly out with and I send an email to a shop wherever I am to fly back from arranging to pick up a box. I've never been refused a box and only once has anybody tried to charge me (Green Bikes - Barcelona) and e...

Re: A question about Spain

Rest easy Pat, there is always somewhere to stay in the interior. I did the same route, visiting the same places but the other way around, ending up in Bilbao. Your way is better, much smaller chance of the bleedin awful headwind I endured day after day on the meseta. Between cities is stress free, ...

Re: Is life possible without GPS?

Never used GPS, not on a cycle, nor in a car, my phone has GPS thingie but I've never worked out how to use it. I am 52 and can count on my fingers how many times I've been "lost", in my life. I haven't got "lost" once whilst cycling across France or Spain. I am sure though, that...

Re: To Barcelona

Exactly Andy, BCN has a petty theft problem, but 6/7 million tourists visit every year, what % return unaffected? I am used it and it's scams, easily avoided, I take out the cash I need, in my pocket , nothing else. Like you said, relax and enjoy yourself, it's a great City for doing just that.........

Re: To Barcelona

Well I can help with Bilbao onwards, what advice are you looking for? Sorry, should have been clearer, I'm intending to cycle all the way down France to get to Barca, but where should I cross into Spain either at the north or south of the countries' border to avoid the Pyrenees or make a point of c...

Re: To Barcelona

Slightly off topic but IME Barcelona is the worst place in the world for thieves, pickpockets and muggers. I have been most places in the world and that is the only place where I have had my wallet stolen. I would never go near the place again by choice. You have been warned. I am there 5 or 6 time...

Re: Flying home from a tour - luggage

I did the same thing in May this year, cycled to Geneva then flew easy jet back to Manchester. I took 2 of those blue Ikea bags, they are cheap, light and tough. I managed to get all four pannier bags in one then put the other over the top to form a cube. I cadged some extra packing tape when I bou...
