Re: Sadiq Khan hires Nike executive for £98,000 walking and cycling czar role

I'm confused by the linking of cycling with walking. The only common factor is that both need more muscular energy than driving a motor vehicle, but there the similarity stops. Of course the view of a non cyclist such as Sadiq Khan, like so many other politicians, is that a cyclist is a pedestrian ...

No, everyone including those that don't have motor vehicles subsidise motoring, this has been proven time and again  http://ipayroadtax.com/no-such-thing-as-road-tax/when-will-drivers-start-paying-the-full-costs-of-motoring/ IFS were quoted “Road use generates costs which are borne by wider s...

Re: Rod Liddle, Sunday times terrorist attack on cyclists

I also found the article funny. He certainly seems to be a total cretin. In the Spectator article he still bangs on about motorists paying for the roads... Actually they do pay for the roads and more. Motorists pay a fraction of the total cost of the roads in VED (& even the VED money collected...

Re: opening car doors on cyclists....

Stopping filtering on the inside would stop almost almost all commuter cycling in London, overnight (which many drivers would probably like, until the next day's gridlock). It would be almost impossible to ride in London without resorting to that tactic. A rush hour journey out of London (for me, 1...

Re: 770m for London cycleways

Khan said he was delivering on his manifesto promise to be “the most pro-cycling mayor London has ever had”. Any pictures of him on a bike? Boris was always being photographed on a bike. Boris was a cyclist, Khan isn't but don't knock him for that. One doesn't have to be a cyclist oneself in order ...

Re: Coroner blames headphones

Many motorcyclists wear earplugs under their helmets, this in addition to riding in some cases a noisy bike and are thus mostly unable to hear other vehicles BUT they are trained to be more aware of other road users, to perform " life savers" etc. Many cyclists do not seem to be as careful...

Re: Good news for killer drivers

Stupid, pointless, ineffective knee jerk reaction sentencing proposals resulting from incomprehension of reality or unwillingness to address reality. There is a problem with dangerous driving...whilst under the influence of booze, or more commonly narcotics or fiddling with a smart phone. Draconian ...

Re: Deterring mobile phone use

Draconian sentences, further legislation etc....when will people learn that fiddling with the law whilst ignoring enforcement is a pointless waste of time. Better to campaign to force the police to take enforcement seriously...people will only stop using mobile phones whilst driving if there is a re...

Ubco 2x2 is too expensive v motorbikes plus it has weak cycle parts as against sturdy motorcycle parts....as MarkF wrote just buy a Van Van...cheaper, sturdier and more capable.

Re: Cycling and the Police

Close passes, cutting up other vehicles, driving erratically, use of a mobile phone whilst driving, driving whilst under the influence of narcotics, RLJing..the list of examples of bad and dangerous driving is endless and the frequency of occurence is, I think, rising. Not surprising really, in the ...

Accent: also irrelevant. Can you hear people in their cars? You meant black and you know it. 1. When I remonstrate with the bad driver about their driving I get to hear their accent. 2. I meant what I wrote, African. HC, you may wish me to have meant black and may wish to misrepresent me thus but t...

Worst drivers: minicabs, people on mobile phones and African women. Seriously Andrew, what century are you living in? I'm appalled.[emoji107] I posted this and waited for the inevitable PC kickback. Its heartening to know that there are some who will always argue against any negative comment or vie...
