Re: Advice for returning cyclist

I second the advice given. Fix and keep the Marin, use it to get you back into cycling, it'll take some time to figure out what kind of bike you really want. Better to wait and buy the right bike than to go through a progression of machines that don't really do it for you.

Re: Gatwick or Heathrow?

Surely they should close heathrow as a stupid built up place to have an airport (luck only lasts so long)? Why can't Stansted be expanded: it has a motorway and rail and coach connection? Close Heathrow in favour of Stanstead? Finally kill off the economy as if Brexit wasn't enough. International b...

Re: Ban Privacy Glass in Cars?

Heavilly tinted glass for rear windows of a car fulfills 2 purposes: the car heats up less in sunlight (which is good and good for the environmennt since the AC doesn't have to be used as much) and to give privacy for rear seat passengers - only really relevant for limos transporting celebrities. My...

Re: Gatwick or Heathrow?

Actually BOTH. Heathrow has the worst record for delays of any major airport because it is operating at capacity, hence the smallest slip up has knock on effects. It requires another runway to simply be able to function effectively. Gatwick's problem is that it only has 1 runway, hence it is also vu...

Re: Pedal power - the unstoppable growth of cycling

It is a problem, late 80's early 90's kids switched from wanting BMX's to wanting Mountain bikes, I would guess that the majority of both were seldom used for their proper purposes though maybe more bmx's used for doing stunts that mountain bikes were for going proper off-roading, I haven't noticed...

Well hey! More competition for Rohloff and more choice. Along with the Pinion system, this new IGH and others. Good news, will hopefully eventually result in some price competition.

Re: I got doored and he admitted fault as I was in his blindspot... Help

Do I need insurance to cover myself if injury lasts? Would home or motor cover it and do I need extra cover or do I phone those claim lines in the ads. No insurance company would ever pay out for an accident which happened before the policy was taken out, so you're too late for this event, I'm afra...

Re: New Biker Essential Kit

As regards a good helmet...ALL helmets must meet the same EU standards, therefore they are all equally good. But, there are big differences between types of helmet; road, commuter, MTB and downhill MTB. The helmet must fit, therefore don't buy online, go to a shop and try some on. MTB helmets or dow...

Re: Mercedes-Benz chooses drivers in self-driving car safety debate

In a situation where a driver considers a serious accident (serious enough to be likely to kill him and his passengers) unavoidable in absence of evasive manoevres a rational driver will attempt to minimise the severity of the accident for himself and his passengers even at the cost of others. Take ...

Re: New Biker Essential Kit

You don't need much to start riding, a few basic essentials will get you going. Helmet, I'm not a helmet wearer but downhill mountain biking is notorious for injuries. Bike has cleats...it doesn't have to. You can easilly change pedals to flats and use sturdy trainers if you don't like cleats. Other...

]How many injuries/damages have been caused by those cyclists you dislike?? Note - I'm not agreeing with their cycling as you describe it.. You are missing the point....its NOT about injuries caused by bad cyclists. Its about risky/law breaking/stupid cyclists p***ing off motorists and reinforcing ...

Re: Cyclists not prosecuted enough!

The lawyer whilst obviously angling to drum up business isn't completely wide of the mark. I have no idea of the West Midlands situation but London does have a problem with some bike riders. Death wish commuters shooting through red lights at junctions and overtaking HGVs on the left, men on bikes (I...

Nissan Leaf huge? Compared to a matchbox car perhaps.

Re: Deterring mobile phone use

One of the arguments against heavy sentences is that it's the likelihood of detection rather than an exemplary sentence which is the greatest deterrent. For being filmed to be a deterrent, I suppose there needs to be a strong expectation that it will be watched without a crash occurring. I don't ex...
