Re: New to commuting by bike

I commuted ten miles each way any weather. I was hit by a car and had to use the train for six weeks and hated it and was soon back on the bike.
The fun is adapting the bike to suit your needs. You mention a racing bike but for me the audax configuration worked best and got me into touring but enjoy.

Re: Winter Glove Recommendations Please

I agree with a range of long finger gloves. Lightest specialised mtb Ok for above freezing and minimal wind. Sealskin waterproof for zero German army surplus ski mitts for why am I out in this temperature, about 20 pounds on eBay. I guess it is a bit trial and error but as I have arthritis in both t...

What3words

I have just been shown What3words and wondered if anyone uses it as it looks good for directing someone to a remote location in an emergency. Is it useful or just a novelty app?

dhb cycle cap - from Chapeau

I had a dhb cap which I stupidly put in the washing machine. My two year old grandson is now the proud owner of the cap. I brought a cap from Chapeau which is sized and really comfortable on its own or under a helmet. Just to say I think they are retro and comfortable.

Re: Help Choosing A Helmet

I too smashed a helmet and suffered no problems so I paid 40 pounds in a sale for a new one which I thought was a fair price. I was staggered recently to see helmets in the hundred of pounds which surely must be fashion over function.

Re: Going to France in a few weeks...

I cycled Clecy to ouistreham on the voie vert which was good but I have found in France that villages often have no shops to stock up on food and water so always start your day well stocked. A long time ago I just I would get something later and it was not much fun running out of water on a hot day....

Re: Le Vélo Francette

I also cycled it from the port, through Caen to Clecy in that heatwave. In Caen you have to go round the marina but it is easy to find on a map. The tip is to stock up on water and nibbles in Caen as the route misses the towns and villages have few shops but a pleasant route. I would use it in place...

Voie vert Suisse normandy

Cycled yesterday from oustreham to my airbnb at combray. It was 36c with no wind sand as big hill to finish. I must be getting too old for this but with another boiling day I will drift down to clecy with my sketchbook and enjoy the shade and a cold beer.

Re: Bike eye frame mirror

My wife has just brought a wrist mirror as she uses straight bars but has not yet tried it. I tried it on my touring bike with drops and it definitely does not work at all for me as I do change hand positions quite often. Back to a bike eye or bar ends.

Re: Reducing pack size for credit card tour

Really interesting and making me think about my packing for a five day trip to Suisse Normandy. I notice you do not include a lock so are you ok about nipping in somewhere or overnight without locking up?

Bike eye frame mirror

Off on Friday for a short trip to France and getting older looking over my left shoulder is a bit restricted so I am thinking of fitting the above as they can be moved left or right so would seem to work anywhere, do they?

Budapest

Sunday I am off to Budapest for my final dental treatment. My wife and I are intending to hire bikes from Margaret island and cycle north, not sure if that is upstream or down, we will hope to go up one side and down the other. I will look at google maps but wondered if anyone has personal experienc...

Re: Travel insurance

I did check any pre conditions and it is fine as is cycle touring. You raise a good point about cover if not wearing a helmet and off road but as I will be wearing a lid and using roads it will not be a problem. I wonder how many people check before heading off?
