Re: dozey pedestrians

I agree about a couple of pings before passing but it fails to work when they have music in both ears. Last week was a first. I gave a couple of pings before passing and the guy stepped smartly in front of me pulling out his phone to see the message he thought was coming through. As I had slowed dow...

Re: Mysterious falling off bike

I have no experience of disc brakes but if the bike was kitted out with them is there a chance of a small sone flipping up, jamming and causing the wheel to stop moving. I probably sound a real Luddite but just a thought.

Re: Rim tape

It is velox tape and about 20 years old so the age corrosion sounds reasonable so I will stick with that as Chaz Roberts seems to get most things right and thanks for the input.

Re: Rim tape

The tape which is canvas has not moved and tyre pressures are checked before most rides. The rim tape has a few holes over the spokes which has allowed the tube to expand into the spoke hole rub and puncture.

Rim tape

Starting to think about my June trip to the Suisse Normandy in June to enjoy the views and get some sketching in. Quite shocked this morning to find the very rapid p******* was caused by a worn rim tape. Obviously going to replace both wheels but I would never have given the rim tape another thought...

Box hill, surrey

The NT are anticipating closing the ZigZag road May 5 and 6 between 1000 and 1700 if the top car parks are full. They use the road as a linear car park and people walk up and down with cars filtering out down hill. Not sure if bikes will be allowed going up but even going down will be a total pain. ...

Suisse normandie

I am planning a short break in Suisse Normandie with a few days in Clecy, probably Airbnb. It looks like it may be July but I see the French schools are off fron 5 July so if the same applies to other EU countries how crowded will it be? If I can duck out of a family gathering late June may be a bet...

Ranmore Common Road, surrey

Just had a local notice that Ranmore Common Road will be closed 23 rd to 29th April. Hopefully for resurfacing but will screw up quite a few local rides as the A25 is not nice.

Re: Bike bag light enough and small enough to carry on tour.

Just had a look at the tardis bag which looks good but I don't think it would work if you had a bike with mudguards. I would like to keep the bike complete bar pedals off and handlebars turned and a clear case but foam or card round the rear mech. I have only flown with my bike a few times and had n...

Re: loud horn for a bike

Not sure a loud horn would work. I have one on my car and idiots still pull out but being seen with a bright light that does not blind oncoming traffic does make sense.

Re: Ride London Classic

The notification is in the Mickleham Parish Magazine reported by the Parish Council who have been in discussion with the organisers as it will now come through the Village. I think the magazine is also on line. Quite a positive attitude by the Parish Council which is good.

Ride London Classic

Just learnt that this year the loop back into Dorking through Westhumble will not take place. Instead the route will go 4 or 6 times up Boxhill through Mickleham so it will be harder and far better for spectating. Very happy as I live on this circuit.

Re: Carrying food in a musette on long rides

I use a bar bag on the bike for longer rides which is fine. When traveling cabin bag only I carry a packable rucksack by friendly swede in my bag which could well work as it could be rolled and tied under the saddle. It is fine as it weighs next to nothing and not too hot as I did a bike ride in Sri...

My thoughts are Salisbury Plain and the River Kennet. I am also thinking Portsmouth Caen then tour Calvados area which is very quiet and pretty.

Re: UK coastal tour ideas?

Camping on beaches is fine but always bed down above the high water mark and be aware of the tides. I have kayaked and sailed for a few years and must say overnighting on beaches is great but always have an easy escape route.
