Re: Macpac Minaret - still as good?

Don't have experience, but note that the spec is similar to Hilleberg's heavier groundsheets so if it's been done properly it should be sensibly bomber, and if it hasn't been you should be able to get your money back. Pete. Cheers Pete, Reason for asking was that the groundsheet spec looks sooo imp...

Re: Recommend a tent?

With the provided inner, I didn't have any problems with midge despite camping in some pretty midgey spots in England (Yorkshire Dales, Kielder etc.). BUT - I never used it in a proper Scottish midge fest. Midge dentistry improves significantly on the west coast! When the first Luxe tents w...

Macpac Minaret - still as good?

The original Minaret was pretty much untouchable in its - compact 4 season class. The current version gets mixed reviews with some allegations that the modern groundsheet is not comparable to that of old - water seepage? Torrentwear™ XP Macpac tent floors are tough and waterproof. Torrentwear™ XP is...

Re: Recommend a tent?

When the first Luxe tents were introduced into the UK Michael Wong had never heard of a Scottish midge. However once he was made aware of them he set about designing and making inner tents of finer mesh that will keep them at bay. I believe all the new models now have midge proof no see um mesh. ht...

Re: Should I appeal a Council decision?

The BT frame presents a hazard that should have been been picked up by the Roads Authority during their inspections. The defective apparatus should have been highlighted to the Utility - BT. This would appear to be a long standing hazard that should have been picked up during any robust inspection p...

Re: Spa Cycles (Harrogate)

Previous order about 18 months back delivery from Harrogate to Isle of Skye in 2 days- new drive train set. Recent order - overshoes and quick links delivered about 12 postal days after order, items in stock. If you need the items for a tour then give Spa some slack as they are about a week behind d...

Re: Out with the old or - Which Touring Bike now?

Back to the value of the bikes I would try and sell the Galaxy on eBay as they seem to command silly money. However because of your location your value will likely be reduced by the price to courier it. If you really are set on a new bike I would forget the cycle scheme, realise as much as you can ...

Re: Out with the old or - Which Touring Bike now?

I am aware of the scheme restriction, but am hopeful that keen pricing will allow an advantage e.g. £1300 bike reduced/ discounted to £1000.

I realise that not posting narrows the market somewhat but I do travel. I went down to York for my last road bike and a couple of bags of spuds

Out with the old or - Which Touring Bike now?

Work have decided to allow access to the Cycle scheme so Im looking for some advice on a new £1000 + Touring bike in Steel or Titanium. To avoid divorce, the supposedly spare room needs to be cleared of my 2008 - 58cm TREK 520 and a similarly sized 1994 Dawes Galaxy which I never got round to sortin...

Re: Brooks saddles query

JohnW,

Very informative thank you. Its good to know that variance in leather thickness doesnt make too much difference. Presumably a slightly thicker saddle will last longer but equally will take longer to break in?

Copper rivets it is :)

Re: Fancy a tour of the Hebrides in 2013?

Last weekends visit was made all the more memorable by a visit by a trio of lovely loaded touring friends from London in their late 60's who were great company and really nice guys who have nothing to prove but are still fit as fiddles. donnieban That will have been us I'm afraid. Re: Brooks saddles query

the smaller rivets will wear through your shorts if you sit on them. Not everyone does, though. cheers Thanks Brucey, My old Brooks has the large copper rivets so... probably safer to get the same again - which poss explains why my retired shorts lasted as long as they did. Have had both recently. ...

Brooks saddles query

I have decided to treat myself to a new B17,possibly a flyer. My question is whether to opt for the special over the standard. Is there a real gain from the large copper rivets etc?
