Re: Toe Overlap on Charge Mixer

Fine if you have plenty of money to throw around. But the OP is clearly unhappy with the bikes and it seems as if the shop isn't offering to change them for something else. However she hasn't returned to the thread so we don't know the latest.

Re: ITB Pain - ow OW!!

Maybe you are getting venerable too  . Absolutely not an expert here, but I need to be careful of my knees. Regular stretching and exercises keep them happy, and I am also careful not to strain them by using low gears where necessary. For now I guess ice plus ibuprofen would help. You will ...

Re: Toe Overlap on Charge Mixer

Can you show me a small framed drop handlebar bike with 700c wheels that does not have this feature? The Thorn Audax Mk 3 smallest size, 495, doesn't have TO even with 170mm cranks, although I think a lot of riders this small might prefer 165mm or 160mm. Illustrated on their brochure (pdf) , page 7...

Re: Toe Overlap on Charge Mixer

There is no excuse for producing a medium and large bike with toe overlap. However, the problem is not RANDOM. It is almost ubiquitous in smaller frame sizes. Go to a few bike shops and look at some 50 cm frames and you'll see what I mean. Even small sizes don't have to have TO. The Thorn Audax Mk ...

Re: Toe Overlap on Charge Mixer

Nah, you just need a label somewhere on all bikes saying: "Warning - this bicycle may have Toe Overlap, depending on the model of machine, the size of your feet and how you place them on the pedals."

A bit like "This product may contain nuts."

Re: Problems upgrading brakes on old road frame

Just to update, Colin sent me some brakes to try. The old Shimano ones, which he had slightly modified to give an extra couple of mm adjustment, fitted and work a treat. I'm looking forward to be able to go whizzing downhill again!

Many thanks, Colin - you're a star!

Re: Dawes Horizon frame - steel or aluminium

Yes - steel is magnetic but aluminium is not, so take a fridge magnet or compass along. With a compass you can also observe that 531 is less magnetic than so-called hi-carbon steel, so it is easy to check if the whole frame including stays and forks are 531. Not sure how 520 compares.

Re: fitting new tyres

Nylon/plastic tyre levers have no use whatsoever - if a tyre can be fitted using them, it can be fitted using just one's fingers. If a tyre is tough to fit, then they just break in two and are about as much good as a handbrake on a canoe. Easy to say but if you are a middle-aged female with the beg...

Re: Mrs Mick F doesn't like it

My daughter has the same problem with that Cat-eye mirror. I have gone for this B&M one instead and find it fits nice and firmly and doesn't rattle out of adjustment. I also think it looks neater without the stalk. It costs nearly three times as much, though.

Re: Toe Overlap on Charge Mixer

My Thorn Audax Mk3 is very lively, handles brilliantly and is great fun to ride, but doesn't have toe overlap even with mudguards. In their brochure Thorn state (highlighting it in red): Please read and take note of this. Whilst having significantly more clearance than a “racing” bicycle, the Audax ...

Maybe there is less of a problem with the wider ones? Mine are 28mm. Your experience should reassure DaveP.

Re: Is this tyre safe? Sidewall damage

It's clear that quite a lot of people have had similar problems -- they are really nice tyres but I think just too fragile for my taste. I have taken a couple more photos to send to Thorn and see what they have to say, but I think I will be changing to a different tyre soon. Crepello: I find it diff...

Thanks guys - it's good to confirm that there is a problem and that it's not just me. I'll get onto Thorns in the morning.
