Due to my significant frontal area I tend to get picked up by the sensors on most of these. If you`re not accompanied by vehicles & want the things to change, wave your hand towards the sensor on the units (sort of slow one handed clap) & you`ll probably see a little LED light up & know you`ve triggered it. You`ll then need to wait for the timer & set off on green.
There used to be one of these on a single file bridge over the Derwent & I confess I did use it a few times. It gave you more time to get to the other side.

I`ve been happy with these - maybe an updated City Jet - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Schwalbe-Activ ... tle_sports
I`ve also found some good innertubes for them if you`ve got presta - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Continental-T ... 1438.l2649
No puncture problems yet on gritty roads & the odd bit of off road.

Looking & not seeing - interesting perception article
Came across this, maybe it`s been posted before, but it is an interesting 5 minute read - https://www.dropbox.com/s/elegi6k9amk8s ... l.pdf?dl=1
It`s a fighter pilot/cyclists analysis of SMIDSY.
It might just have something to do with the current `is it safe` thread but maybe that`s more down to the selfish Mr Angry`s amongst us.

Re: Narrowly avoided being knocked off my bicycle by a dangerous pick-up truck
Here is a short video of traffic using the `new` road:
http://www.bridlingtonfreepress.co.uk/n ... -1-8515566
Brid has been full of frustrated drivers for weeks as roadworks have been ongoing, with some one way roads doing an about face for the duration - I was on that corner last week when one of those giant motorhomes turned right into Bridge St, going the wrong way - he got about 30yds & had to reverse out.
I expect Mr Pickup was on the phone or texting as is normal in Brid.

Re: V brakes with long slots anyone?
All fitted & seem just the job - loads of clearance ^ < > & able to get spot on for positioning on the rim. The arms are a little longer than the Avids they replaced so maybe the leverage balances out as about the same. Mrs M will be fine as she weighs next to nothing anyway, and the steepest incline locally is the Col du Ryther railway bridge (featuring in the Tour de Yorks in the spring).
I think they might be onto something with the pink version - if reflecting pink then the shorter wavelength, more energetic components of the visible spectrum are being absorbed, thus giving the brakes more energy - that`s got to be good hasn`t it!

Re: Do Touring Road Bikes have bespoke Mudguards and pannier
My son has recommended some stainless steel mudguards, example here : http://www.velovitality.co.uk/collectio ... -mudguards
& they have done many hundreds of touring miles without problem. Seems to be a reasonable size range. They do accessories like bags & racks etc, some of which are starting to drift towards the poncy end of the market.

Re: V brakes with long slots anyone?
Well they brakes have turned up - just 7 days from China which seems pretty good. I`ve not had chance to fit them yet but have taken a couple of measurements & I think it`ll solve the problem. Measurements are - from center of pivot bush to the very end of the slot is 64mm, length of arm from center of bush to centre of cable clamp bolt 106mm. I think I`m +/- 1mm on the measurements.
Hopefully this might allow those of you wanting to do some mix & match wheel/frame combinations a reasonable option. The quality seems reasonable, all the fittings are plated & the arm finish isn`t Campag record polished but seems robust enough.
Thanks for the offer of the Mavic adaptors Kev - I do know these are very sought after for some conversions - if you put them for sale on Retrobike sales forum I`m sure they would make someone very happy!
No luck yet on the joyful life, might kick in by teatime.
Thanks for the help, Julian

Re: V brakes with long slots anyone?
Well I might be lucky with these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Taiwan-ma ... XQUmFSnWeJ
& have put in an order - I`m having black, not pink but trying to scale things from the photos I think they`ll have enough adjustment. I get a joyful life as well, which sounds a good deal!
I`ll report back when they turn up & I`ve had a go at fitting. Thanks again for all your help, Julian

That does look beautifully made & would be just the job, but half a bikesworth is more than the cost of the whole bike...

I`ve been looking & came across this, which is interesting but I won`t be using it - I`ve got a lot of respect for jubilee clips but probably not for application here :

Re: V brakes with long slots anyone?
Thanks very much for the reply - as usual, well spotted! Currently there are a pair of 600A rims in there, but they are nice & light & take narrow tyres for road use. I might get by with some sort of extension to the arm, but will try & find something first.
Thanks again & if anyone has another idea please let me know, Julian

V brakes with long slots anyone?
I`m having trouble aligning v brakes on a little frame using 24" wheels - afaik it is designed to take 24" & seems right in other respects.
It`s very difficult to line up the pads with a good full face of pad on the rim, ideally I`d like to slide the pad further up the slot, but the slot isn`t long enough. If I could find arms with a pivot centre to end of slot dimension of 55mm I`d be fine, with a bit to spare. Might anyone know of a brand/pattern that might suit? I do understand that I`ll be losing some pad pressure, but it won`t be a problem.
Many thanks if you can help, the combined knowledge here out-does the local shop!
